I put in an order for a new Range Rover Autobiography PHEV in October. Quoted delivery was March. Then it came forward to Feb. Now has gone to "unknown".

Yes it was. The original x100 XK and the Aston DB7 were both based on a modified XJS platform
DB7 yes, X100 XK no. I assume you've had both up on a ramp?
You are wrong sir. Both off of modified XJS floorpan. Craig is right.

This site keeps on getting linked by some of the journos I follow over on Twitter:

http://www.jaguarlandrover.com/news/2018/12/strong...

Seems legit under "Investor Relations". Anyway, states that in November, "retail sales were up significantly in North America (18.1%) due to strong sales of Range Rover models in Jaguar Land Rover’s best ever November sales results in the market. Sales were also 5.6% higher in Europe and up 3.2% in the UK."

Goes on to say that "sales in China were 50.7% lower than a year ago as market conditions remain difficult with continuing consumer uncertainty following tariff changes and trade concerns."

So a mixed bag, then.

The brexit scapegoat is getting old. The reason sales for JLR are falling are due to the growing perception of poor reliability and build quality among customers.
And a st choice of average cars.
I worked part time in the trade as an interest until recently. I really like Rangies but and it’s a big but (pun unintentional) their reputation for unreliability was so high that 3 year old ones were seriously, seriously cheap. I managed to resist...just. The reputation sticks.

Err, the Range Rover Sport is the slowest-depreciating car you can buy in the UK...

They do seem to hold their money well, but in the world of the Porsche GT car, I can’t see how the Range Rover Sport is number one. hehe

Err, maybe a few years back it was one of the best but Overall I feel Porsche can now claim that title (as long as you don’t go option mad)

Sticking my neck above the parapet again - I’ve weathered the opprobrium shown for my innocent and naive appreciation for the old X305 XJR smile - but I’ve always wanted an RRS. I think the old one was a pop classic! The thing that’s always kept me away isn’t the big bills; it’s more the worry of something going wrong when I least need it. An unfair perception maybe, but one hard to shake off in my head. On top of that I hate jabbing incessantly on the LCD screens in JLR products when inputting a destination address or something. So after experiencing my mates MKII Touareg, I know which truck I’m depending on should the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse come upon us eek

I think your concerns about RRS reliability are not mistaken. I've never seen a modern car fail to proceed anything like as often as a colleagues TDV8 RRS. As you say even if the money doesn't bother you being stranded in car parks and on the hard shoulder most assuredly will. It is a shame, they're a bit of a shameful dirty pleasure of mine like Subway sandwiches and Newport girls.

That's wrong as well. You need to understand how the front and rear axles bolt into both an XJS and an XJ40. They are utterly, totally and completely different. Different front and rear chassis legs, different front and rear bulkheads, boot floor and tunnel.

So, exactly what part of the XK8 floorpan is the same as an XJS? laugh

I'm astonished that three JLR products appear in that list - one of them hasn't even been on sale for 12 months yet surely?

Alas, I think you're right.

I figured we'd replace our Disco Sport with an RRS once it's lease is up in a couple of years.

But I think we'll head back to VAG too. Having to squeeze the four of us, plus the dog and all the presents, into our R50 MINI because the Disco decided it's DPF was full the day before Christmas Eve was inconvenient to say the least.

A quick look shows they have done an assumption of used value minus list price. As with most high end cars most buyers will spec an additional 10% in options which are not taken into account in this survey. It is also fair to assume not many 2.0 RRS have been sold on basic format as it does not even get air suspension and likewise a basic Velar does not get sat nav.

I love these articles....

"If you want to buy a new car and for it to lose the least amount of money in three years, then step right up to the driver's door of the Range Rover Sport."

That is a complete load of tosh.

Percentage wise, yeah. Money wise??

Ouch, sorry to hear that. But precisely the sort of thing that punishes the brand. Can only imagine the sheer annoyance on the day - Elvis would have shot his.
