And is that simply because this SUV doesn't have parking sensors, cameras, pedestrian whatever sensors, lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control among other similar things? Not my words Carol, the words of Top Gear magazine!

Or is the crash rating not very good?

Does anyone know if it's got a traditional steering rack, on that point? Given 4x4 creds I'd like to think so for ruggednes.
I'm assuming it does not have a steering rack. It's probably got a steering box like it's predecessor.

As soon as the4 door version is out, the order willbe placed.
Finally a new car where the designers were not let losse with fantasmagorical, undescipherable shapes and idiotic lines. Excellent stuff!
Do you have any info that they will actually make one? The last generation was 3 door only. Finally a new car where the designers were not let losse with fantasmagorical, undescipherable shapes and idiotic lines. Excellent stuff!

Yeah...but who cares, look at it! I think a lot of people do buy cars based on how they look -whether they admit it or not -so I expect it could sell reasonably well. I certainly want one and have no real need for it and know how uncomfortable it would be.
It doesn't say that it's terrible on road, just not as simple as the soft road nonsense things. The poor driver will have to twirl the wheel that little bit more, and will have to move that wobbly stick thing about instead of a souless auto, but, they'll have far better visibility due to the lack of excessive body, easier parking, and maybe, just maybe crack a smile. I love the honesty in this car. It's just not pretending to be anything other than it is. I also get the feeling it's going to be a cult car. It's already developing a following.
For some reason I have a hankering to photoshop one lowered on bigger wheels, I imagine it would look smashing.

Apparently the cabin was "excessively deformed" in one test. Only going on the headline of a video I can't be bothered to watch though. Or is the crash rating not very good?

Mainly the electronic aids for people who can't drive, but also pedestrian impact; airbag slow and 3/4 crash for the occupants. Or is the crash rating not very good?

Body on frame vehicles tend to do poorly on collision tests, although this may be different with the new generation of pseudo-SUV pick-ups. Not my words Carol, the words of Top Gear magazine!

Even the Panda dating from 2011 has a 4 star rating and even that is described as "concerning".

I currently drive over 25k miles a year in a 98 MX5... Even the Panda dating from 2011 has a 4 star rating and even that is described as "concerning".
Seriously considering getting one of these to promote the Mazda to weekend car status.

4 star in 2011 cannot be compared to 3 star in 2018. The criteria is very different now as the standard keeps getting set higher. One thing is for sure, it's a hell of a lot safer than the old Jimmy....... which works for me !Even the Panda dating from 2011 has a 4 star rating and even that is described as "concerning".

I don't think I've ever spent so much time researching a car that I don't need and isn't even out yet.
I just want one. It's a terrible idea. I'll never go offroad. It's worse for commuting on proper roads than just about anything. It'll be utterly crap at everything I need a car to do.
And I STILL can't close all the Youtube tabs and admit I'm not getting one.
I'm going to need to test drive the current model to get this out of my system...

The 'problem' is that yes, as a commuter they are objectively crap. I just want one. It's a terrible idea. I'll never go offroad. It's worse for commuting on proper roads than just about anything. It'll be utterly crap at everything I need a car to do.

However, they're just so much fun (even on the commute) that it simply doesn't matter...

This is EXACTLY how I feel. I have absolutely no use for one and do a 45 mile per day commute round trip, but in jungle green with the UK-spec wheels it's just such a fantastic looking little thing I'm obsessing about it constantly. Another factor that isn't helping much is that it's only going to be £16k-ish... if it was a £25k vehicle then I'd be resigned to never having one, but it's actually rather affordable, dammit!
I can also imagine it being the sort of car you'd have fun personalising and generally not taking it too seriously.
And I would imagine Jimny owners are a nice bunch of people. I don't have any experience of that, I just think it's probably not possible to be a Jimny driver and a complete chav.
And there's something very PH about function over form.
Am I right in saying the first tax payment for 154g/km CO2 would be £515? Then £140/year forever more? That seems like daylight robbery for a £16k 1.5 petrol, but I guess I'm out of touch with new cars...

If that's the case, what happens if you buy one used at 6 or 11 months old? And I would imagine Jimny owners are a nice bunch of people. I don't have any experience of that, I just think it's probably not possible to be a Jimny driver and a complete chav.

Do you have to pay the £515?

You've summarised exactly how I feel. I don't usually like SUVs or crossovers, it's not powerful enough or luxurious enough for my usual tastes, I don't ever plan on going off road, I would always need a bigger car, and above all I don't need it.I just want one. It's a terrible idea. I'll never go offroad. It's worse for commuting on proper roads than just about anything. It'll be utterly crap at everything I need a car to do.

But by fking god do I want one! And I'll definitely test drive one when they are launched. And I'll almost certainly get one by hook or by crook.

The £515 is included in the "on the road price" as it's effectively a showroom tax - yes it's £140 regardless of car unless it tops £40k RRP then you can ad an extra £310 a year for years 2-6And I would imagine Jimny owners are a nice bunch of people. I don't have any experience of that, I just think it's probably not possible to be a Jimny driver and a complete chav.
