V55 Registering an imported classic car
Discussion
I have imported a classic car from the USA, a 1958 TR3A, paid the VAT man and now have to register the car with the DVLA. They have sent me the V55 form with the guidance notes - my question is do I have to complete every section on the form?
This will be used to generate the V5. When I look at the V5 for my TR4 there is very little data about the car. So do they really have to have the dimension, curb weight etc?

I have done a couple of these and in both cases I filled in what I could and left the rest blank. Although not asked for I also sent photocopies of the pages from the original car brochures that listed spec detail. Both went through without further question and for one of them I got the V5 within five days.

No.The modern V5C has a lot more detail than it ever used to, and it's blank on all older stuff. Not only that, but the V5C caters for all vehicles, not just cars - so there's stuff that only relates to trucks or whatever. All you need to fill in is what would have been on there back in the day - so engine/chassis number, capacity, make/model. The basics.
DVLA produce a number of useful packs, including guides to completing forms.
Not all sects need to be completed, particularly where the vehicle is more than 10 years old.
Your comment re VAT is interesting - I understood VAT was not required on a vehicle over 30yrs old?
