Is this correct?
Using a detuned version of the engine found in the 30i it musters up just 197hp and 236lb ft, seeing it reach 62mph in 6.6 seconds. Like the 30i, though, it manages just 47.1mpg compared to the M40i's 48.7mpg, meaning that owners won't be trading power for efficiency.
So the more powerful engine delivers better mpg?
We should all be going bigger then, if this is the magic manufacturers can produce
Exactly. If the 6 is more efficient than the 4, surely BMW have missed a trick by not offering a 6 in various states of tune across the range and sticking two fingers up at Porsche's questionable move into VW Beetle territory.Using a detuned version of the engine found in the 30i it musters up just 197hp and 236lb ft, seeing it reach 62mph in 6.6 seconds. Plus surely there isn't much point making the smaller engine when its miles slower and more thirsty. The smaller engine will be cheaper to buy and I suppose it has that going for it.

I can't see the figures being correct, the M240i has a combined mpg of 39 and I presume its the same engine. Z4's have never been very light so I can't see it being massively lighter either.

The smaller engine will be lighter as well, the Z4's are horribly heavy for two seater sports carsPlus surely there isn't much point making the smaller engine when its miles slower and more thirsty. The smaller engine will be cheaper to buy and I suppose it has that going for it.

Very diappointed with it´s design.
I mean it would be okeyish as a first roadster from a young brand but it´s not good as a BMW and not good at all for a Z4.
What an odd car, for me this is an uglier 124 Abarth with BMW design language down the side.I mean it would be okeyish as a first roadster from a young brand but it´s not good as a BMW and not good at all for a Z4.

Forget the engines, it looks utterly terrible. What were they thinking?
The front: Over styled and the least BMW-looking BMW ever. They have stretched the trademark kidneys to the point where they are almost unrecognisable. Too busy.
Side profile: The proportions are just wrong for a roadster. Where is the long bonnet and the short front overhang?
Rear. Actually my favourite view but those side vents dominate...and they are filled with black plastic and a reflector. Are they even functional?
The concept was a lovely looking thing. What a crying shame.

Well, as someone who bought a brand new Z4 35iS and has been very much looking forward to the new Z4 I'm afraid I'll be looking elsewhere when I replace it next year.
The 35iS isn't the last word in sports cars (althought the adaptive suspension makes it much better than most people realise) but to my eyes and many others who have given positive comments, it does at least look good. This is a prerequisite for me when buying a sports car and I certainly won't be troubling the order book for the new Z4 based on those pictures.
As an aside I'd also see the engine as a step down from the existing 3.0 twin turbo (same as the 1M). The new one may have similar power but nothing like the character.
Shame...

I would hang tight until you saw one in the flesh, to be sure of the looks side of things. (your current Z4 was a slow burner with me anyway) and as far as the engine line up go - based on the M5 Competiton debacle, I am sure there will be a similar M40IS competiton CSL coming soon also! The 35iS isn't the last word in sports cars (althought the adaptive suspension makes it much better than most people realise) but to my eyes and many others who have given positive comments, it does at least look good. Not that it is my money of course!
Oh dear, much, much too fussy.. too many cuts and shuts and angles.!
But.. if Lambo' do that too, then it must be OK.?
Except this looks like an overstyled FIAT.
Whatever happened to simply beautiful cars.. BMW have let us down in this department for years.
Perhaps, just perhaps it is high time the Brits stepped up with gorgeous cars for sensible money and plenty of ooomph.!
Happy days.

Bit strange that the engine is lesser tuned compared to the X3 M40i which has 360bhp... maybe there are saving the extra ponies for the M Performance Power and Sound Kit (MPPSK). 48mpg combined is rubbish too, should be 39mpg.
The B58 engine combined with the MPPSK is epic though, I've got it in my 440i (360bhp and valved sports exhaust) and it goes well and sounds better!

Have you not looked at any of the recent kidney grills on models? they are all pretty much like that. The bumper is highly similar to the 8 series design in M Sport. The front: Over styled and the least BMW-looking BMW ever. I would say it has a fairly long bonnet, the front overhang I suspect is for safety reasons even the 124, mx5 and a few others suffer around this area when you look at the bumper to front axle.
Not 100% certain but based on previous experience with these vents BMW tend to make them "functional". The side ones are likely to be (and are on most of the current "G" models).
