It’s nice. Quite the mix.
Miniature 6 series from the front (understandably)
Nissan GT-R slash behind front wheels
Mercedes SL or SLK from front 1/4
C Class coupe from rear.
Bangle doors (again maybe understandably)
Bit of Arbarth I can’t quite put my finger on.

The longer overhangs , new grille and lights make it look terribly similar to the Merc SL . Also the 340bhp I6 has no real increase in power over the old Z4 35 iS , not much progress there.

Sounds great, think I'll be sticking with the M40i but the performance from the sDrive30i isn't bad either. The only disappointment with today's announcement is it's still 6-months until they land in March! I want one now... driving

I see they couldn't bring themselves to admit the weight.

Trying to think of something positive to say. The brown leather seats look really nice, and I do like that wheel design.

Agreed. I would be a customer if it had been like the show car.

I get that brand recognition and design language are issues, but being a bmw interior designer must be the most boring job in the world.
Yup - spot on. The interior looks the same as a 2003 E60 5 series

But it weighs less and is quicker round the 'ring than the M2 (not the M2C though).

Very divisive in these comments, mainly negative - afraid its a "yuk" from me those proportions are Alfa Brera ugly.

Haven’t read previous comments, but will comment anyway....

Weird proportions, very un-BMW. The front overhang is too long, the gap between wheelarch and door too short. Front wheel should be further forward, basically.

I wonder is pedestrian crash safety is the reason for this. The front suspension turrets are close to the bonnet, so maybe they had to move them back. It will be interesting to see where the engine sits within the wheelbase.

Still, it should look fine in the dealership, parked next to a fwd 1 series.

Phucking heck, I knew it looked familiar. Is BMW now in Chinese hands?
To be fair it looks less like a Fiat without the photoshopping.

In the UK the small engine poverty spec.no more than a 4 wheeled handbag for the ladies. Tarty grille copied from Mercedes. Clumsy lazy styling lacking in purpose or reason makes the outgoing Z4 look much neater. California will love it.

I've never been a hugh fan of BMW styling, but I've got to agree with most of the comments here. The designers have spent so long 'taking design cues' from other manufacturers (translation: being lazy) that it doesn't look like a BMW, but neither does it look good...

It's a mish mash of crap IMO.

I wouldn't be buying one anyway, but it just looks all wrong to me.

So much negativity and wild assumptions.

I like it, i can pull up cars from all decades from different manufacturers that have similar designs an styling, its always been the way.

I think sometimes people should remember that no one forces the likes of BMW and other manufacturers to make small 2seat sports cars and I can guarantee if BMW announced no new 2 seat cars YOU LOT would fffin moan at that as well.
