At least Merc give them proper brakes unlike the piss poor single piston sliders that VAG fit on their Golf R and Audi S3!
I have the current S3 and think the brakes are equally as impressive as the acceleration. I'm not sure how they would hold up on a track but are plenty enough for fast road use.

From reading this thread Merc interiors are obviously very marmite, i'm very much in the hate camp.

I have a relative who works for MB and could achieve considerable discount but I couldn't live with the A or C class interior.

IMO Mercs has always been a gentleman's car but the current interiors look like they were designed to impress children and boy racers.

I think the interior design makes sense if it appeals to the younger crowd, the earlier in their life you can get people invested in your product the longer you will have their patronage.

The interior definitely has showroom appeal. It really sets the A-Class apart from the field in this sector. I can imagine many being swayed by it.

I presume they're nothing like the Q3 that we have, the brakes on it are utterly shocking!
It's another of those 'Only drums on the back of that tiny car?' comments; fashion dictating 'function', when it's not a necessity at all. You can't get an 18" over the R PP brakes - they're perfectly adequate!

I'm definitely sold on the interior and its a big attraction for me, and I like how it has the S-Class tech. I have been used to Bmw interiors though...and it doesn't take much to have a more impressive/interesting one than a Bmw interior!

I'm a big fan, it will be interesting to see the price verified as surely to compete with Golf R, Audi S3 etc it needs to be around the £32-33k mark. Maybe its the garish aero pack that pushes it to the £35k point.
Why? The S3 starts at £35,800 OTR. The A45 competes directly on price with the RS3, why would the A35 need to be £,£££'s cheaper than the S3 to compete?

Exterior is decent enough, not keen on the bad boy lights on the front. The old ones weren't great either to be fair.

Interior is pretty damned ugly though - its not horribly boring and out of date looking like a 1 series but not a fan at all. Don't really like the tacky mood lighting, the awful square tablet and mostly that the side vents are higher on the dash then the middle vents.

I know its all pointless things that doesn't really matter but would grate on me each time i got in... Will prob have a test drive at some point to see whats what and i might like it more in the metal.

For now though if asked i would say i'd take a competitors offering.

I'm not a fan of either the inside or the outside.

Then again I wasn't of the outgoing model, but given a couple of years I came to terms with, changed my opinion and now I have one that I particularly like the look of, inside and out.

I will echo what was said earlier, although impressive the long old box screen looks like something from an old rover, just the modern incarnation. I think there are much nicer ways of presenting a dash and I really like when they integrate nicely.

eta: I do like the technology though.

My mistake I thought it was less than that, they must have upped the price with the facelift

ETA: Just noticed Audi only now sell the 5dr Auto, the 3dr manual was a few grand cheaper, but then thats my bad again as the A35 is a 5dr auto!

Another lesser model to dilute the AMG range. Can see there being loads of these on the road replacing the usual Golf R and Audi S3 bruvs with 2k down and £300 per month to spare.
The every growing chav population with diesel A200 “Amg sport” A class’s might actually now be able to mean it when they go around telling everyone they drive an AMG because they will be able to get in one of these for an extra £100 per month.

This is blatantly aimed squarely at the Golf R and S3, and it seems to stack up well.

The Golf and S3 are at the end of their model cycles though, and replacements will be seen in the next 12 months. It'll be interesting to see how it compares to these.

Definitely looks better than the previous model and the interior is a step above.

This over M140i? I don't think so.
The 1 series is one ugly car that doesn't look sporty at all.
^^^^^^^^. This. I wouldn’t blow money on a car this ugly irrespective of its appealing performance/handling credentials.

Looks amazing inside and out but as a Powertrain engineer that air path from the airbox to the CAC is laughable in a performance application atleast.
Is the bigger issue the 180 degree bend, or how it's routed right over the top of the hot bits? Or something else?

Will be very keen to try this when it launches. Sounds like they've positioned it exactly right to take on the Golf R, Audi S3 and next gen BMW M135i xDrive. If it's priced correctly and drives properly can imagine this will significantly outsell the outgoing A45. All looks very promising indeed thumbup

Also all the comments comparing it to the likes of the M140i, RS3 and outgoing A45 are completely missing the point and show how out of touch some people on here are.

The M140i is end of life with no direct replacement, there will never be another 6-cylinder RWD 1-series. The M135i will return to take that position in the range albeit in xDrive form with a 4-cylinder unit offering similar power to this car.

The next A45 will become the flagship AMG version of the A-Class and will compete with the RS3, but technically speaking they're a generation apart nerd

I don't like it. Even with 500hp for 25,000 pounds.

Ain't paying Mercs badge to look like a chav. That is what Bmw and Audi are for anyway.
