This over M140i? I don't think so.
for me yes, much more aggressive looking !only a remap away from being a45 power levels too!
It's just a semi-skimmed A45, whereas Mercedes could have made it a bit more understated for a different demographic.
My elderly father likes his fast cars but has decided the time is right to have something a bit smaller and easier to park than his current diet of big Jags, but without looking like a boy racer.
So we'd narrowed it down to a 140i or Golf R. Merc traditionally have a big gap in their ranges between all the cooking models and the full-on AMg model, and this A35 could have nicely filled the hole. But not looking like that.

Grey metallic on 18's would make it a very different car... (and be £,£££'s cheaper than that optioned up one)

I think this is actually my problem with this.

Don't rule it out. The fins and wing are optional extras on the A Series - Aero Package. As standard it's pretty tame looking. It's just a semi-skimmed A45, whereas Mercedes could have made it a bit more understated for a different demographic.

Amazed you're still a member.
You wouldn't speak like this to my face.
I think you may be incorrectly crediting him with getting out in public regularly. You wouldn't speak like this to my face.
Anyway don't stop him, I'm quite enjoying the meltdown. Once you get passed those initial feelings of confusion and indignation, it's quite funny to read
Be interesting to see the 35 and the 45 back to back, what do they share, what is different and how much performance deficit there, previously Mercedes could be accused of having a big gap between the fast one and the next one down, A250 AMG is what 200 ish bhp vs 360 to 380 so it makes sense to slot a slightly less potent model in there, its still quick enough to be in the Hot Hatch realm where the A250 is a decent enough car it just doesn't have the firepower nowadays to cut it in that realm.
Whens the next M lite 1 series due ?
I would think that will have 350/360 ish bhp, now that the M2 has been bumped up to 400

Apologies for interrupting this thread to talk about the car in the article at the top of it, but the A35 looks like a seriously nice bit of kit to me. Like a lot of others here I wouldn't go for the shouty paint and aero stuff, and shoot me now but I actually prefer a 5-door. This would make a nice second car to sit alongside the family Irrelevant's workhorse Outback; I shall watch with interest.
I'm a big fan, it will be interesting to see the price verified as surely to compete with Golf R, Audi S3 etc it needs to be around the £32-33k mark. Maybe its the garish aero pack that pushes it to the £35k point.
I hope they include the wide double screen set-up as seen in the pictures as standard, the base option looks awful in comparison with some chunky plastic borders around the smaller screens. It'll also be interesting to see if the hardware in the powertrain and driveline/chassis is the same as the upcoming A45, or if merc will protect the A45 by upgrading it to make sure you're nto just an A35 with a remap away from it.

I think they will have covered themselves that you don't end up with the same car as the A45 if you remap an A35, there would need to be some significant differences just to justify the extra cost, been talk of them using some hybrid power boost etcEdited by andy.mod on Wednesday 19th September 15:51
