True it doesn't have parking sensors, but it does have a rear view camera instead and nav is standard. It's also a fk load cheaper than an RS3 and isn't an RS3 rival, it's aimed at the S3. I'm really not sure why you fail to grasp that concept seeing as it's been mention numerous times?

Nav standard, reversing cam standard, as has been said subseuqently.

The car wasnt designed to have a rear wing - it was designed to be a Golf rival and have been enhanced by AMG. The spoiler is an AMG bolt on effectively.

We didnt opt for it on our A45 and i think the car looks the better for it.

Post pics of your standard spec RS3 though when you get it. I look forward to seeing it. wink

What does a standard £35K A35 look like? - All the Mercedes, internet & motor show pictures seem to have both extra large screens and the body kit on, so are more like £45K cars.
Looks like a standard A class merc. You need the aero kit on the AMG as it just makes the car look that bit more aggressive.

I love the wife's one - A 45 AMG - in white with black wheels darting through the traffic at stupid speeds, popping and banging as it goes along. Innit bruv smile

Will be getting the new one when it comes out, which I is rumoured to be a hybrid with well over 400BHP!

The Aero kit doesnt get you a wheel upgrade which is probably the more significant visual change. Also the bumpers will be different than the standard car.

Ours has upgraded rims which gives it a more aggressive stance without the bolt on spoilers.

Got the same wheels. Have you ditched the Dunlops? Ours has chewed through them in 7K. Now switched to PS4s?

I like it looking like that - less shouty with the correct wheels

It kind of is, one of us is talking about facts, the other is talking about their opinion. Guess which one is which hehe
Your both talking about opinion, since when did we devolve into childish mindlessness pretending that all we spout is fact when you're only as opinionated as the next!

I'd take the AMG, I've had two BMW's and currently driving a Merc, so basing it off my experiences I think I'd sooner have a performance Merc than a performance BMW.

Late to the thread but I find it amusing the lazy assumptions about the m140i
Having had the coupe 35 and hatch 35 the 40 with adaptive is a certain step on handling wise.
If I wanted pure finesse I would have a 172 cup or a proper circa 1000kg hatch which would make the lardy 4 pot fart boxes look whale like round the corners.
If you want to cane it in the wet and need the security then by all means the fart boxes give amazing performance relative to ten years ago.

However the whole they can't handle stuff by fart box owners is hilarious. As a previous post mentioned check out the track times of an auto 140.

Then check out the ingear times, they beat 16 plate rs3s and nothing gets near the feeling of planting the right boot and the impact of big capacity engine torque wise that the new unit delivers in the 140. It is incredible the pick up and kick, let's face it we can't all cling to 4wd off the line times like kids can we! In gear is where it's at and certainly the BMW offers pound for pound class leading cress here. By a distance.

They are a wonderful people's performance car, the engines are not strung out like the fart boxes and i can confidently chip, if I wanted to, and run into 6 figure mileage, would anyone say the same of the highly strung 2 LTRs. Especially as a second hand buy.
As for the sound, ain't no match. The 2ltrs nowadays sound terrible in comparison. Better fuel economy and the joy of rwd. I want to feel like I am driving the car not driving a PS4 game.
Unless you drive everywhere at full chat what's the point ......or you are under 25 of course.

Cheaper, faster, better.
Just a shame the bean counters at BMW have made the stupid decesion to follow suit into fart box land.

The styling is getting worse and worse for me. And imho the wing in the back on an hatchback was something I was not even doing on Need For Speed Underground as kid, looks weird.

I had a quick drive in the previous A AMG Mercedes and except for the amount of power, it wasn't exciting at all.

Wow, some of the behaviour in this thread is appaling. Some people could do with a subtle smash of the head against a wall.

Besides that, I do like the space the A35 takes in the hot hatches or whatever the category is called nowadays. I'd be happy to own either one of the cars mentioned in the article. And besides the lighting the interior seems ok to me, better than the C-class. Exterior wise pretty well done too.

I’ve ordered mine.

And I’m a diehard BMW driver, of faster 1 series, 3 series, 6 series and M3 CSL over the years.

I opted for premium pack, advanced nav and HUD, adaptive dampers, leather pack. Digital white (or should I say Bradford white?).

I avoided the aero pack as it’s a company car and spoiler looks a bit OTT for my taste, but will try and upgrade the alloys as per the Red example earlier in the thread. Nice looking car there sir.

Can hardly wait, good safe fun for the mere mortal drivers amongst us. I like to drive fast on quiet A and B roads, but parp myself if the traction goes too far adrift. Tiff needell I am not, but let’s face it, Tiff ain’t that fast cos he’s going sideways instead of forwards....

I’ll post my impressions when it arrives.

I had a drive of one of these last night as my friend got a lease for his wife.

Very shiny on the inside, I do quite like the design of the dashboard and centre console but the finish was all a bit too glossy for my taste It sparkles and shines even at night.

Seats looked and felt nice in alcantara and were reasonably supportive considering they werent the ones you get in an a45.

Steering felt ok although not as direct as some competitors.

Brakes felt very sharp and it has massive calipers (think they were 6pots?) and quite big discs. Despite "only" 18inch wheels.

It felt pretty quick and the gearchanges almost seamless. Odd having drive/neutral/reverse on a stalk rather than where a gearstick usually is. I like that the handbrake engages and disengages automatically in "park".

Ride was sporty but not too jiggly, you can tell this has been setup for daily driving duties.

After fiddling with modes I couldn't work out how to get it back out of manual mode without turning the ignition off and back on although there must be a way but the drive modes system is not the most intuitive to use. It made a few nice muted pops from the exhaust in sport+ mode.

Overall it was a nice car. More of a daily than my RS with a much fancier interior but imo nowhere near as fun to drive. I don't think people will be disappointed with this car , it seems a pretty good allrounder.

The gearbox is very good for an auto but unfortunately for me auto gearboxes always take away a lot of the fun and involvement. A shame they don't offer a manual.
