Good enough is, well, good enough. Even if it doesn't dominate the road or the stairs.

How many owners will drive 1000 miles across Europe anyway? Driving to school isn't quite as arduous.

People with this budget don't want 'good enough' - and comfort doesn't need 1000 miles to show.

Might I recommend anger management?

Hideous, but it seems many new big cars have the Chinese market in mind where enormous whale mouth grilles are very much in vogue.
I keep hearing this as the explanation for horrid car design and thought "they can't be that important surely"

Okay then, seems they are. So everyone else can just be happy with what China likes? I guess they must be, as they keep buying.

As said its looks are surely aimed at the Chinese market. In the UK its more like the latest fashion victim thing to have car for those who never seem satisfied.

Time and time again French sheds have shown me the most comfy chairs available. You don't have to spend money to have 1000 mile in one hit comfort in a car.

Are you a "community leader/spokesman" for the Cheshire Set?

I think we all know that even a plutocrat would be comfortable driving/being driven about in a Skoda Superb.

If you see an orange Focus ST, who's driving it?

If you see a Fiat 500, who's driving it?

If you see a white Transit pickup, who's driving it?

Who listens to Radio 4?

Who listens to HeartFM?

If you see some scaffolding being erected, who's doing the work?

Yes, there are exceptions, but very often you can profile people by the clothes they wear, the job they do, the car they drive, where they live, where they shop and so on.

Like it or not, a large "road dominating" SUV is going to be driven by a certain type of person, just like the orange Focus, the Fiat 500 and the Transit tipper. Near here there lives a Range Rover Sport SVR with BO55XXX on it's personalised plate and I can assure you that all of the stereotype boxes are ticked.

Maybe I need to hand in my PH badge, but what is a FL2?
I assumed a version of the Freelander as we were talking about Croydon tractors? So, not PH at all.

But, its hard to be sure when some people wrongly assume everyone else is aware of the model numbers and engine codes of their particular marque.

I drove a military Humvee round private and public roads in the states. Those things are huge only because the axels are designed to fit in the ruts created by heavy trucks.

I just looked it up and they are 2.15m wide.

Sorry, my mistake, must admit I have no idea which model folks are talking about when they go on about E** Beemers.

Btw adding a later comment, noted you didn't ask what a FFRR is. tongue out
In case don't know that it's PH code for Full Fat Range Rover. HTH.

Edited by FiF on Friday 21st September 13:25
The FFRR usually accompanies a st parking picture, so is an easy one.
And most people are often happy to help.

And yes. Beemer owners do seem t be the worst.

But not a Range Rover Evoque, a Range Rover Velar, or a Range Rover Sport, any one of which could be accurately referred to as a "Range Rover".

That said, I do actually like the styling on the Q8.

Whereas... I like my big, comfy, practical Armada. The real c u next Tuesdays are the throbbers that mince down the road in a pathetic little Toyota IQ.

All those ARE model references though.

Even the manufacturer doesn’t call it the Full Fat. They call it the Range Rover.

i don’t really care what people call it to be honest. Or why it’s a big deal all of a sudden that I correctly guessed that FL2 was a Freelander Two.

I don't know if some buyers are stereotypes or, having bought a car the size of a barn, conform to it.

However, I have just been out, in slashing rain, watching a speeding BMW X6 a foot or so from the bumper of the car in front, acting like a total bellend.

Most SUV's are laden with all of the latest gadgets, buttons and shiny things. One of the gadgets the X6 is fitted with, which you may not be aware of, is "Anti-Aquaplane" . This enables the car to be driven in an aggressive manner befitting of such a motorcar, in standing water. It works by diverting some of the driver's arrogance, sense of importance and entitlement out of the cabin via a series of pipes. This is then directed in front of the tyres so the car is always driven on dry tarmac even when the driver can hardly see out of the windscreen due to the driving rain.

The Austin FL2... Quite a rare car these days; it was based on the old taxicab. Great for dominating the London, but a bit too rare to risk it out on the country lanes.

Autocar said a short while back that VW have by far the biggest market share in china, to such an extent that they will focus future models on china, and the ROW will have what china wants. Ifbthis incluees big, ugly, obnoxious, road dominating features then so be it.

I actually think for a large SUV, it's pretty good looking and hides its bulk.

I like it in that colour, I think it's a nice looking SUV if you spec the colour to blend the grille in rather than having it stand out against orange as in some of the pictures.

Too much hate on PH these days, not ribbing or mild dislike but pretty aggressive hate towards a car and anyone who would drive it, it's a bit odd and it's just about every new German SUV that costs a few bob including S/AMG/M versions that attracts their bile laden posts.

Weird to think that you'd living amongst people that hate you for your cars existence....but I'd wager the vast majority wouldn't even notice and it's confined to just a few maladjusted weirdos on the internet.
