Hello

I need some help in regarding a parking matter as you can see from the picture below there is six parking bays for anyone to use. I have 2 households saying that its 1 space for each household but there isn't a sign saying reserved parking or anything to suggest other wise.

Also i have own the black jaguar in the picture and also have the BT ford transit for work.

What do you think i should do? Do i confrobt both households saying there wrong as the council haven't said its reserved for the six households as i have seen other people using them when there is a couple of free spaces available.

How badly do you want your vehicles keyed/tires let down?

I can't comment on the legal / official standpoint, but if there are 6 bays and 6 homes, its a bit of a cheek to take up two spaces. Can't you park the van on the road or something?

First option is, is there somewhere else you can park your car or van?

Whilst it may not be restricted by signage, it’s not very neighbourly to take 2 spaces yourself

Second option is, screw your neighbours - just ignore them and continue doing what you’re doing. If they directly confront you, refer them to the council and say they’ll have to take it up officially.
Be aware of the risk of an ‘accident’ befalling your car with this option, if your neighbours have the will/balls

Park the van on the grass.

Would any of them use the vacated bay? Have they got 2 cars too?

a bit of common sense i think, rather than what is legal

If the 'arrangement' has been working up til now - 1 house = 1 space? - then why upset things? Can you not park one of your vehicles elsewhere?

If you force this then that's when folk start putting out cones and bollards and folks cars start getting keyed and blocked in. Being in conflict with your neighbours is not fun.

Be careful there may be a caveat about commercial vehicles parking there. On the estate near us commercial vehicle means anything that is marked up. Guy with a plain white van hasn't got a problem but the guy who works for the RAC can't park his van on his drive.

Still think if there are 6 spaces created and six houses then it is one per house. Nothing seems to miff off neighbours more than inconsiderate parking.

If the 6 spaces relate to the 6 households - I'm presuming flats or houses set back from the road with no driveways - and everyone has a vehicle to park, it would be neighborly to take just one and find parking elsewhere regardless of what is or isn't allocated or entitled.

It's not about the rules/law, it's about consideration for other people. Also, you have to live with them, be a , expect the same or worse in return.

Don't you know what van you drive!? Surely that's a Vauxhall Vivaro?

The empty parking spot next to the mini is also occupied by another neighbour who also own the mini yet they don't seem to have a problem with them and also the other household has no vehicles and thats the one who put the note though my front door. Also i have parked there for a few years without any hassle.

That parking is on a first come, first served basis. Ignore them.

park the van elsewhere, i would not be pleased either if you took up 2 bays like that - its planned for 1 bay per dwelling even if its not in writing.

As others have said, if at all possible I'd find somewhere else to park one fo them. Strictly speaking those spaces are cearly unallocated but getting on with your neighbours is, IMO, far more important than being "right" in this sort of circumstance.

The council have just knocked down old garages at the back of them which you can park 20 vehicles
