Just back from the emergency vets where our 3.5 year-old lab had a burn to his face, just under his eye cleaned and dressed because some f*cking c*nt threw a firecracker at him tonight.

Walking over Tooting common on an unlit path with him off his lead. He was 10 or 15 metres ahead and wandered into some trees and longer grass. Suddenly there was a flash and a loud bang and he absolutely howled but stayed worryingly still. I honestly thought he'd been shot. Smelt the firework and was torn between chasing the scum and looking after him. Glad I stayed with him as (a) he was dazed and then quite disorientated/distressed and (b) because I was so angry and pumped up that, if I'd cought the guy I genuinely think I'd have done him (or, more likely, he'd have stabbed me).

Got the boy home and, whilst Mrs C called 101, I got him to the vet. Thank God just superficial and they missed his eye by less than an inch!!

He's now home, tucked up in his bed and very woozy, having been sedated.

Be careful out there guys.....

I am sorry to read this frown. Your poor boy.

There really are some thoughtless and /or uncaring bds around.

I hope he isn't left too traumatised by all this. If there are after effects, mentally, there are things that will help. I hope his physical wounds heal quickly.

Kinda speechless... What an utter bar steward. Maybe worth a picture and email/call to the local newspaper.

Reading this makes me want to do unspeakably violent things to the perpetrator.

But as I cannot, I will just add my good wishes and get well soon thoughts to your boy.

What a terrible thing to happen. It is possible someone threw a firecracker and your dog ran after it then it exploded? Perhaps unlikely but I’d rather not imagine someone deliberately threw it at your dog.

Hi all. Very sadly deliberately thrown at the dog - laughing at his howls of pain and running off.

Fortunately, he seems well on the road to recovery with few lasting affects. Need to take him out Asap to see whether it's made him gun-shy but, so far, so good

I hope you and your dog are ok.

I hope those responsible for deliberately harming an innocent animal are dead.

Absolutely horrible. Poor doggo.

Would like to find the and put a firecracker up his arse, followed by a bigger firecracker.

I'm sorry to hear this, what absolute pond life. I'm fairly local to you and have a lab who's confident/ relaxed - would be happy to bring him across for a walk if that would help

How people can do things like that is beyond me, scum.

Hope your dog is on the mend!

You've done the right thing informing the police, if your on facebook I'd be tempted to stick a post up warning others / asking for information... locals seem to group together on these kind of issues and its probably one of the only things I think facebook is good for!

All the best

Thanks - that's incredibly generous and thoughtful.

I'm taking him down to Norfolk tomorrow for a day's pigeon shooting with my brothers dogs but, depending on how that goes, may take you up on your offer

Very sad, and it reminds me that it's 'that' time of year again.

I fecking hate fireworks, but that's a whole new thread, again.

I feel your pain. Sorry to hear of this.

Be interesting to see how he gets on tomorrow with the noise from the shooting.

Quick update on this.

Shuck's scars are healing well and I think that, before long, they won't really be visible unless you know they're there.

In terms of his temperament, he was a bit jittery the first time I took him out shooting but he's done a pheasant day and a bit of rough shooting since and seems to be fine, so - hopefully - no lasting harm done
