WhatsApp iPhone to android transfer

I've recently taken the plunge to ditch iPhone for Android.

I've transferred all my photos,videos, contacts music and text messages but I can't find an easy way to transfer all my WhatsApp chat history to the app on my new Android phone. I backed up WhatsApp on my iPhone to both iCloud and an unencrypted iTunes backup. I've managed to extract the chathistory.sqlite file from the iTunes backup.

Anybody have any idea how to get the chat history to restore on the android phone when WhatsApp is installed? I'm aware of a paid for app which claims to work (wazzappmigrator) but I'm stubborn sort who wants to know a free way to do it

Does it offer backup to Google Drive on the iPhone?
Might be easier for the android version of Whatsapp to read that backup, I've not made a change from iPhone to Android involving Whatsapp in along time.

Unfortunately not. You can only back up to icloud

If you have the backup files can't you save them in google drive?

I *think* you have to restore when you first install so you may need to reinstall Whatsapp and point it to the correct google account.

I sent a long time trying to do the same - i couldn't make it work. Finally got wazzappmigrator ... was a little fiddly to use but it worked. Nothing else did.
Worth the couple of quid it cost in my opinion
