I quite like this - looks relatively aggressive.

Although, the rear 3/4 reminds me of the A7.

Would love to see and hear it go.

Mercedes lost their way ages ago for me. It looks nothing like a Mercedes. You could stick any badge on that and it'd look correct.

wow - that is a real shocker - is it just me or does it look like a three pointed branding iron on the front grille that marks the cars you rear end with a 3 pointed star?

Also, why is the transmission tunnel so large between the front seats, and that dashboard with all those round vent holes - maybe it's the camera angle but it looks damn right awful imho.

The Hyundai n whatever it's called looks better than this ! not sure about 'mean eyed cat bar' more like 'sore eyed'

Don't find it particularly attractive, looks a bit under-wheeled and slab sided. Better in other colours though. Real shame there's no shooting brake version any more, I have no use for a saloon.

Hideous - sides too tall, windows too small

Do they still make the BMW M6 Gran Coupe? Cheaper too!

For the love of god, Pistonheads, please stop horizontally squishing your images. It’s no wonder everyone thinks every new car they see on here looks rubbish. They’re all proportionally butchered. Sorry, just constructive criticism, but it is monumentally amateurish frown

Anyway, in my opinion this is a complete beast and I’d love to have one in my collection biggrin

I like it is a brutish classic AMG style.

....however, I'm struggling where the near 50% premium over the M5/E63s is justified, other than 'GT' badge?

It is not what it purports to be as the author correctly points out and that should not matter.
But, it does.
Otherwise, what a car. 3.2 0 to 60? Damn.
Indeed.

God, it’s gopping. Especially in the chav-tastic matte paint and yellow seatbelts.

You have to ask - why? If you want a bit of speed and to carry the kids, get a quick 4x4. Or a decent estate. Or a Panamera - which, in common with new model Porsches, looks so much better in its 2nd generation. A complete waste of engineering effort.

With the shape of that roofline, they should call it the ‘hunchback of Affalterbach‘.

Agree with your post other than the 4x4 part. Quick SUVs are ridiculous stupid and a contradiction in terms.

I do like the front of the car - it looks menacing. I don't love the matte paint, but I do think that the revulsion of it is primarily a UK thing as at least in the N American market, matte wraps/paint aren't that common so new luxury cars with matte paint don't have that chavvy, council-house signification

The 0-60 mph figure is probably conservative, as the almost-as-heavy, and lower-powered M5 will do it in 2.8s

Like it, but then we also got a new AMG C43, yesterday that I am more than happy with too. Although only having 385bhp and taking over 4.5 secs to 60 its still more than enough AMG for getting the family about in my opinion. Surely spending this amount of money and wanting to go fast but wanting 4 seats you have enough to split budget over 2 cars.

The people that buy expensive cars like this either a) have other cars that are lighter and more fleet of foot or b) don't care about having a Caterham/Elise/Speciale for the track/sunny Sundays. Its about the status/being able to be quicker off the line than almost anything else

My best friend recently upgraded from a C300 to a C43 and I expected it to be a bit quicker, but thats about it. I was ASTONISHED that the 43 is like a completely different car! I recently drove a manual 340i and found the C43 a lot sharper and more enjoyable drive (despite the fact that the drive in the BMW was a 1 hr mentalist tear to the airport at 120 mph, whereas the drive in the 43 was slower and shorter) Congrats on your purchase!

Precisely the reason I wonder why Merc even offer a non ‘s’ version of this car. Who on earth is going to spend well into 3 figures on a ludicrously powerful everyday car and not choose the most powerful version available?
