RE: Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe: Driven
Discussion
Mercedes have lost their way, not taking anything away from the car that is.
It’s an absolute beast, it looks nice and it’s definitely a dream car but I can’t help but think that Merc’s don’t look like mercs anymore, this has nothing in common with any of the old models.
IMHO, An evolutionary approach to a cars appearance is better than a revolutionary approach, every Mercedes you see today will look dated in 6 years time when they ger replaced.
Also, why isn’t the top speed over 200mph?

The 0-60 mph figure is probably conservative, as the almost-as-heavy, and lower-powered M5 will do it in 2.8s
2.8 seconds - really? In any case, acceleration depends on far more than just weight and power - torque, tyres, gearing, gear shift speed, weather conditions etc.Shermanator said:
It's horridly ugly, I don't care how well it drives when it looks that horrible.
People are going on and on about how "pretty" this is, yet went on and on about the older generation of the Panamera being ugly. They look pretty darn similar to me...
The wierd thing? I liked the first gen Panamera, this though is not nice in the slightest.

Like everything, looks are subjective etc etc, but that shape (looks totally odd to my eye) in that colour, just shouts of, well, a matchbox toy an eight year would think looked cool.
I'd need a bag on my head to drive that!

Should have somewhat wide-bodied a CLS and upgraded the interior, would have been such a better template. Like the A7, no current "Sportback" has ever got the roofline and rear looking right to these eyes sadly as the concept is sound...

The people that buy expensive cars like this either a) have other cars that are lighter and more fleet of foot or b) don't care about having a Caterham/Elise/Speciale for the track/sunny Sundays. Its about the status/being able to be quicker off the line than almost anything else
My best friend recently upgraded from a C300 to a C43 and I expected it to be a bit quicker, but thats about it. I was ASTONISHED that the 43 is like a completely different car! I recently drove a manual 340i and found the C43 a lot sharper and more enjoyable drive (despite the fact that the drive in the BMW was a 1 hr mentalist tear to the airport at 120 mph, whereas the drive in the 43 was slower and shorter) Congrats on your purchase!
I test drove the C63s and M3 when chaining my car. The Merc was the surprise, a lot sharper and driver focused that the M3 - both amazing cars, but the AMG had the dynamic edge out of the two. Quite a turn around from previous history. My best friend recently upgraded from a C300 to a C43 and I expected it to be a bit quicker, but thats about it. Wasn't really a 'Sportback' - it was a saloon with conventional boot.
That's just marketing lingo for 4 door coupe. I just disagree with the statement. Even the S5 sportback is lovely. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
