That thing is stunningI've had plenty of these, and still have one now, awaiting rebuilding following a restoration.
I disagree that they are st, having owned or had plenty of driving experience of most fast Fords. IMHO its one of the best, I much prefer the Fiesta to the Escort! This one is alot of money, but the prices are going up.
I wouldn't recommend one over the alternatives for the money, but its a candidate if you ask me. A well looked after one is a fun time capsule drive.

Surprised at the negative comments surrounding its looks. I think they look great. Very much of their time and a huge leap over the cooking Fiesta of the era. The arches and four light bumper make it look squat and rather handsome I think. For a Fiesta anyway. Yes a Clio 16v is probably a better looker, but it's a nice looking car I think.
I remember driving one in around 2002-ish, my first drive in an RS. It was lightly modified, around 160bhp as I recall, and it was an animal. A proper little rocket, that wooshed and sneezed like a rally car, thanks to a stainless exhaust/open filter. Yes it was unruly, but that was part of the charm. In this world of sanitised, 4WD super hatches that have virtually no feel at all, lairy, silly cars like this should be celebrated. The flaws in a car often make it endearing. After all, Alfa have made countless st cars, yet people still lust over them.
That being said, this being PH, I'm sure a lot of people that are slating it have never even sat in one. It's still very fashionable to trash Fords from the early 90s, but a lot of it is actually unfounded. Some of the cooking models are a bit pants, but the sporting stuff wasn't actually that bad most of the time. Not class leading (apart from the Escort Cosworth perhaps), but often not nearly as bad as people claim.
As for the price thing, well, it gets a bit old doesn't it. It's amazing how so many car enthusiasts simply don't understand how the collector car market works. A car doesn't have to be any good to be valuable. Just because you wouldn't pay £15k for it, doesn't means someone else wouldn't. I wouldn't myself, but someone else might. It's a shame they are going beyond the reach of normal enthusiasts, but that's the way of things.

there is a Ford scene tax thing going on, so its worth what one of the faithful would pay, to me its worth very little as no desire to own one so its a suprise to see one for sale at fifteen grand, I knew they had gone up but not that much.
I like Fords (we have two) but there are a load of things I would buy before a Fiesta Mk3 but am sure plenty would.
Its just seems massively expensive compared to its contemporaries that were better regarded, must be a comparative rarity thing ?
Fast Ford prices are weird, but I suppose if you buy it and it holds its money or increases then its worth that, and in the scheme of things 15 grand isnt that much cash, just seems a lot for an old Fiesta.
Winder what Fiesta ST's will be worth in the future, I guess someone will say nothing because its new, wonder if anyone would have predicted 15 years ago that MK3 Fiestas would be worth that much ? maybe more will survive due to better rust protection and keep prices down.

i've got a mental block about anything with the cvh engine.
how such a horrible engine sold in so many numbers is beyond me.
Yes, truly awful engine albeit very tuneable. I went in a friends one 20+ years back and heard good things but when I went in it and drove it, I was very underwhelmed as I love the looks. I remember the R5 GTT was better in every way except build. The Uno T wasn't as good a handling car as the RS but the engine was by far nicer to rev and felt quicker.how such a horrible engine sold in so many numbers is beyond me.

I had a choice between one of these in black and an XR2i 1800 16v
Went for the XR2i as it felt better to drive.
Bizarrely, mine was the one that Clarkson and the other two idiots blew up in their piece on 80s/90s hot hatches.
I drove an XR2i back in the early 90's. Being an Alfa fanboi at the time I was wasn't expecting much having been jaded by decades of cynically under-engineered Cortinas, Escorts and Sierras but was pleasantly surprised. Went for the XR2i as it felt better to drive.

IMHO Fords have continued to develop and improve ever since.

Wasnt there an RS1800i as well ?
There was.Guessing there but it lost the ability to crank the boost up which I think was one of the main attractions of the Turbo variants.
I owned a lovely 1994 fiesta RS1800,slightly modded(lowered /stainless exhaust and k&n induction kit
Very nice little motor.it was a toss up between that or RS turbo fiesta at the time I bought it.ive always regretted not getting the RS turbo!!
Loved those recaro seats!!
I thought they were great little pocket rockets, and the ones I drove I don’t recall much if any turbo lag,or heavy steering.id love one today, but not for fifteen grand though!!!
