Glad I wasn't the only one to see a bit of Lexus in the rear lights.

Not a bad looking car overall though.

Apart from the rear lights and front grills I think it looks good.

Interior is a nice step up, I wonder if the instrument cluster shown in the images is the optional fully digital cluster?

I prefer the normal round aluminium bezels with the half digital speedos.

So as per usual, the next gen car is bigger than the car it replaces. ie, the new 3 Series will be huge. Probably getting on for a 5 series size a few Generations ago.

The 340i will share the engine and power of the 1 & 2 series. Given this car is bigger and heavier, it'll be slower. Why not boost the power to make it quicker or at least as fast as it's smaller siblings?

No mention of X-drive I see. I thought about going for a 3 series a couple years ago. But you couldn't buy a 340i manual with X-drive. No doubt the new car will follow suit. Want X-Drive, you have to have an Auto.

For me, I think the new 1 & 2 series (whenever they're released) cars will be more of interest.

Reading between the lines, the 330i is now a 2 litre lump?

It has been a 2 litre for quite some time, as was the 328i before it - over the full life of the F30 model

Who's in for a sweepstake on how long it takes for them to be offered at 20% off list?

Ooh, another BMW styled entirely around a big ugly grille. Put the ugly stick away, BMW.

It is bigger but lighter than the previous iteration, like the current 5 series is lighter but more spacious than the previous gen.

This new model is still smaller than the e39 5 series too iirc.

Likely little to no demand for x-drive with a manual. If you want a manual go RWD surely?

Like it or not, diesels are going out of fashion. I'd guess we'll see the "high powered economy" batten passed on to a hybrid. Maybe we'll see 330e and 340e models? I think a six cylinder plug-in parallel hybrid sitting at the top of the (non-M) 3-series range could be quite compelling. Probably not very likely though.

Out of fashion or BMW UK artificially not bringing options over? There is quite a bit of history of BMW UK doing that...

The hybrid models though do not fair as well in WLTP real world conditions which is where many are struggling at the moment....

BMW has gone full digital for the new instrument clusters (it might be an option on the 3 but it is the same one used elsewhere in the newer models - X5, Z4 and 8).

For the updated MY2019 cars the G30/31 had the chrome bits removed from the cluster. Having driven a G31 they were just stuck on anyway. to go around.

I still prefer the older 6WB cluster from the F series cars honestly.

Rear looks like an old Camry, front looks far too much grill and lights - there doesnt appear to be any metal between grill and lights.

One thing i know for sure, the old E46 looks far far better than any 3 series since.

All I can see is a 5 series from the front, and a 2 Series from the back.

Unsurprisingly there appears to be very little originality in design these days. I'm sure it'll sell like hotcakes though.

Not a fan of the fussy bodywork. And whats with the intrusion of the bumper moulding into the headlight? Like, why??

These things seem to me just to make life harder in the event of repairs / crash damage. Surely cars ought to be made with cheaper repairs in mind as well?

The issue of visibility is also getting worse. Less glass and higher shoulders, thicker pillars, and it makes you wonder why when you get into older cars that have better visibility, you just think, why? Yeah, we get the better structural rigidity bit. But materials can be infused these days with better composites, different thicknesses, etc so that you can have increased rigidity without necessarily needing greater circumference.

I just think in terms of looks, this isn't the kind of progress I would have hoped for.

Well both. BMW decide not to bring cars here because if and only if they wouldn't generate them a net profit. Fashions in the market obviously play a large part in the profitability of a particular model/variant.

Of course we make something of a rod for our own back in that regard by driving on the "wrong" side of the road.

I'm sure a very accomplished car, but while beauty is in the eye of the beholder, like so many current BMWs this one only it's mother could love!

Many manufactures seem to live in a post Bangle world of unnecessary creases, and jumbled/ fussy details. I wish someone would have the courage to revert to cleaner lines....
I agree, it's a mess, loads of apparently random lines and shapes that have no relationship to each other, it would look a lot nicer if it was a more homogeneous design.
