I disagree. I think they are the most innovative, ground breaking automotive business in 100 yrs. I came very close to getting a Model S last year, and know 30/40 owners who rate their cars as the best they've owned.

The joke is on anyone that thinks Tesla is a joke, IMO
You know more than 30 Tesla owners? And have had a discussion with every one of them about whether or not it's the best car they've owned. And they all said yes

That sounds a little bit made-up.

Apologies if I've misunderstood.
At least. Come to where I love - Alderley Edge/Wilmslow. Loads of them. I was looking at one last year, I counselled a lot of opinions at the time, and have done so since.

There are 7 Model Xs and 4 Model S at my daughters school. There are 6 Model S's and 2 Xs at my gym. I know 4 owners of Xs and 2 Ss away from either those, and thats before the people I've spoken to around the village.

My pleasure... Were you unaware of BMW's full EV plans? Straight question...
Not entirely. But BMW - as do others - throw so many red herrings about.

Hah yes I'm fully aware of bmws current and possible future ev offerings.

The point is though this in 2019 will be selling directly against the model 3 in most markets.

I think more people would go for a short range city ev if cost was so low you could add one to your fleet cheaply.

The current plethora of 2011/2 leafs here etc.

For the cost of the i3 its just too little car for the cash for most people.

Funky but expensive construction.

Looking back I’m surprised they even released the i3, perhaps they should’ve started with an i5/6/7.

Expensive batteries, carbon cell, avant garde styling, lots of new tech - surely they’d have been better off with something they could’ve flogged at the £60-80k mark (or more - I think the BMW brand would support that)

It’s not that much cheaper to produce a small car than a big car, so not sure about starting with what’s considered a very pricey city car.

Obviously they had the i8, but that’s also pretty niche IMO, how well has that sold?

To the contrary, of the three guys in my village who I know personally and whom own Teslas (all S models), one is getting rid because in his words 'it's a one trick pony and bloody boring to drive', another is getting rid, or at least is trying to, because of the lack of quality, as he sees it. Third is happy with his, but hasn't anything to say about it other than it does what it is supposed to.

As a product, Teslas are undoubtedly very impressive from a technology perspective, and have of course been very disruptive in the market place, no doubt driving and accelerating change in a very good way. However, as someone who has been involved at a senior level in the auto industry for a very long time, I can tell you that their business and their manufacturing facilities are, indeed, a joke.

That's not the first time I've heard that. I guess that 2 tonnes (and 4WD in some models) isn't a great recipe for driving enjoyment. Many non-car people think performance cars are just about straight line pace though, and in that sense it is an amazing car to combine that performance with a large luxury saloon. I guess it depends what you want.

yes I'm a bit bemused as to why anyone would buy a Model-S expecting anything else? It's a damned great barge, it's not meant to be a sports car or even a sports saloon.

Those ownership comments are exactly why I didn't get one.....but most people aren't interested in high dynamics. The pull to the Tesla S & X is cheap motoring, ludicrously beneficial tax, large car, high tech....and the speed on top of all of that for some.

Yes, we just lob the spent nuclear fuel rods in the green bin every other Thursday.

Exactly. Anyone who bought one, then got rid because it's a barge did drive one first. Nor read anything about them.

The owners I know are largely either after an alternative to an SUV, or a motorway cruiser.

I'm not God, but I can see why you'd think that.

And I guessed you knew....hence why you'd mentioned it. It just made the rest of your comment look stupid and/or pathetic and/or disingenuous wink
