I like it.

However, I think they nailed it the first time around with the 1M.

Lots of competition and choice for buyers. Alpine, Porsche Cayman/Boxster, Alfa 4C, Lotus Elise (perhaps not a daily car though).

The side profile rather reinforces how oddly proportioned the huge arches on the M2 make it look compared to the standard 2 series coupé.

God that's an ugly, misproportioned, dumpy little pig of a car.
Who would have thought you don't like it ?. I think looks are subjective. I think it looks great. I also think some people value the driving experience more than the looks, but each to their own.
No one can think that looks great..... unless you've been on the sherry?
Or unless looks are subjective (you never know). I really like it. Not too mention the driving experience based on how good a basic M2 is as a trackable daily. But I appreciate that's not going to help if you don't like the way it looks.

Thought the regular M2 comp was going to have c. 405hp? 10hp isn't much of a bump for a CS version...

As with most Bmw's of recent times...its about the way they drive and not the way they look. I bet its great fun to throw sideways. driving

These really are funny lookin' things. Something about the design of the rear wing makes the rear wheels and arches look tiny and vastly out of proportion to the rest of the vehicle.

That said, if I were rich I'd love to own one... These latest photos really bring out the strange rear quarter design though.
Photo from rear 3q's looks like it's taken under hard acceleration (nose up, ass down). suspect it will look better at rest.

The looks of the 1/2 series seem totally polarising. I have a 1 series and very much like how it looks - and think the 2er looks even better (and the M2 better still). The consensus seems to disagree with me though!

The aestetics aren't helped by the fact that Pistonheads have, as they always seem to, squashed the images horrizontally. It's never going to be a pretty car but it's not really going to be that dumpy.

Would a M2 work as a family car with two under 3 year old kids?

Have had similar thoughts, decided on 'not really'. Guess it just depends on how much practicality you are willing to compromise for a great drive. Can't imagine my wife would be overly amused!

60k starting price I reckon with hardly any options to tick like the M3/4CS

My wife is very happy I decided to scrap our M2 order when they took immensely long time to deliver when they first came. That said, it's roomy enough, it is just the classic 3-door (lack of) practicality that plays in, especially if you need to dive in back to buckle up the kids. If they manage themselves, they aren't half as bad then! No child lock needed on the inexistent rear doors, and great accessibility in the front seats. That is if there is enough space to swing open the door in the car park.

Just hope it doesn't follow M3 Comp -> M3 CS pricing policy and end up at about £70k.
And despite that, when I look up registred weights (each car is weighed where I live), they are hardly noticeably lighter than a regular M3 comp. Give or take 10-20kg. I hope for the owners the rawer driver experience is worth it...

Where would that be? Sounds like a useful repository of info!

The M2 bears an uncanny resemblance to a truncated M4

Yeah it’s called a telephoto lens that shortens perspective. It always makes cars look out of proportion when viewed from the front or rear quarter angle smile

That car looks like it has all the M-Performance bits but the interesting bit is the tell-tale gold calipers, signifying carbon ceramic brakes, which aren't on the list for the M2 Comp. So if this has a power bump, carbon ceramics and all the trick m-performance bits, then count me in!

Sweden. Mind, only for new cars since 2016, and not too common ones which tend to have the same weight accros a model (e.g Focus 1.0).
Search out the for sale cars on bytbil.com or blocket.se, then check their weight on car.info with the plates. Mind that 'kerb weight' is in fact registered EU weight incl. 75kg drivere. There.
