Perma-tan brigade out in force today! No one needs a big 4x4 unless they live out in the countryside. Trying to justify your 4x4 on practical grounds just makes you look silly. Why not just say why you really bought it, i.e. as a status symbol, to outdo the Jones's and to help you make you feel superior to others on the road? For that purpose, monstrous, brash & showy 4x4's are the most practical thing going.
No-one needs anything more than a Ford Focus.

Depends on what you are comparing it against....but it'll lap most circuits quicker than a hot-hatch but feel like a limo on the school run.
Change the wheels (or go for a lesser model) and it'll climb mountains
You are right. It isn't good. It's fking great.
It's too compromised to be great, and too many footballers drive them so it suffers image problems. There is an allure to the supercharged version though...just as with anything huge with a big engine.

Would rather drive round in a Ford Focus to be honest. Don't need to spend £100k plus on a pointless 2 tonne SUV to compensate for anything that's lacking.

Go and drive you're SUV round a track and see how long your tyres last!!! In the meantime I'll be running rings round you in my Elise - oh and having much more fun in the process.

Why do they have to be ‘compensating’ for something they bought it because they wanted it. And then try and drive your Elise home without discomfort and take your 3 kids to school the next day in it.

A friend of a friend bought an Overfinch Range Rover some years back.

It was white with a red interior - it looked like a tart's boudoir.

And yes - it did formerly belong to a footballer (well, his wife).

Overfinch - overpriced tat these days.

These days though, ime, footballers drive Mercedes (along with Russian gangsters).

I've an estate car to take the kids to school in thank you. The Elise is a driving tool pure and simple and a very good one at that.

You have to ask yourself why someone would want a hulking great 4x4 that guzzles fuel, is rubbish to park, costs a fortune, isn't that roomy inside, and isn't particularly talented in any area? They're not even any good off road anymore! So what's left that they are good at, ah yes, portraying a perceived image of wealth and importance.

Like I said round this way I seen loads of SVR's and other binged up RR tat every day. They are two a penny, common as muck, yet and every small man/school mum/scrote seems to want to lease one. Each to their own but I think they're mental!

hehe

The Overfinch RR isn't by any stretch a great car, and it's compromises are far more extreme than most.

Well fashion shape people's choices. So the answer is: people.

Haha wouldn't you just love to think that. I could afford to buy one of these - yes buy outright tomorrow, with cash, not lease! However I'm happy not to shout about my wealth and prefer to drive round daily in a 10 year old estate car (okay it's a very fast estate car) and spend my money in more constructive ways. I'm not having a go, just struggling to get my head around why someone would possibly desire to spend £100k + one of these brash and shouty things.

Anyway it's a moot point because 90% of these abominations are leased meaning that without finance none of the owners (sorry renters) could afford them either.

Errrr, nope we're really not. Just feel really sorry for someone who would be prepared to waste their money on one of these things just to be able to portray a certain image to others.

Exactly you have a second car to do the practical stuff, the svr is the practical car choice for that person and they wanted a fast one. And may well have a second ‘sports’ car for driving fun/track days like yourself. Why would you choose a low sporty ride estate for daily lugging when you can have a nice comfortable rr?

And driving an old estate but letting everyone know you have all the monies to buy one cash if you wanted, all the RR drivers iv seen just go about minding their own buisness none have told me how much cash they have or what they could buy.

If you're so happy to spend your money in more constructive ways then why are you so against leasing a depreciating asset?

Personally, I have bought cars in the past and I have just bought the missus a new runaround - cash. But I do like to lease cars too. Does that mean I'm skint? I would argue no, but is there any point in shouting about my wealth on the internet to a stranger? The answer to that is no.

The truth is, a lot of people who slag off those who lease usually don’t (despite what they claim) have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it from. Cars are not an investment so those who do their research, and find the right deal, will use leasing to work for them.

Footballers on £200k a week lease exotic cars, why? Because they don’t want to tie up their cash into a depreciating object.

It’s even the same in IT now. More and more businesses are leasing IT equipment because it’s value sinks like a stone. Even Microsoft are pushing all their clients into a pay per month/per user plan, and soon they plan to stop all capital purchases of their software by 2022 (or 2020, can't remember the date exactly).

Anyway, I digress, but you certainly seem more worried about what others are doing, big shot.

There might be some people like that.

I used to love Overfinch when they took a decent product and actually improved it (bigger engine, better brakes, better suspension) and the overall look was discreet and subtly different. Now (as has been said) it just seems to be garish vulgar obscenities. It's like the difference between Kate Middleton and Katie Price.

Your whole argument makes a mockery of your own argument. Rightly you've just confirmed why people buy these ghastly monstrosities - because they want others to know they can afford it, or because it makes them think that others will be jealous. Sadly not in most cases, a classic own goal there I'm afraid. No one (unless you're one of those 'hey look at me' types) is jealous, anyone can afford one on lease these days, they're as common as muck, ten a penny, nothing special at all.
