Can we see a picture of the wide body Sunny ZX Coupe please? Also some info on the Ro80 would be good, is it getting an RX8 engine?

They were at Retro Rides Goodwood earlier this year and that pale blue Alfa is an absolute weapon. It's also stunning to look at. There's a YouTube channel for anyone wishing to see the Murray Escort and what went into the build.

There must not have been space to provide links to Retropower's social media accounts in the original article:

Took about two minutes. How hard could it be?

We often talk about the fantasy euro millions garage on PH...

If I had proper funds, my purchases wouldn’t involve sitting in a glass and marble office, discussing my latest super car specs with a designer suit. Be under no illusions, I’d attend track days around the world and hire these incredible machines to fully experience them.

But my collection of 5 or 6 special cars would be the result of hanging out with guys like this and singer in the states. Drinking tea from chipped mugs, patting a friendly dog, walking inbeteeen lots of ongoing projects and coming up with bespoke, useable classics of my own choosing.

It would also make me immensely pleased to line the pockets of the talented engineers and craftsman putting these things together rather than corporations and financial institutions.

I’m really glad that guys like this can make a viable business out of this type of work (or this plus the bread n butter)

Their YouTube series has been great. 20 minutes talking about the intricacies of a dry sump tank construction or half an hour looking at the welds on a floor pan. Desperately sad in the best possible way, and their passion shows throughout.

I can’t help but think that the Murray build juuuuust slightly gets carried away with itself - literally everything gets replaced or remanufactured. I guess if that’s the brief and the budget then fair play - but I’d like to hope that if paupers like me came along with a project they’d make slightly more practical decisions smile That being said I’m sure this is also intended as showcase for their talent, and I’m not criticising it at all.

Well done lads. Living the dream.
Damn you for mentioning their YouTube series! I've now just gone ahead and subscribed to them....... I'm never going to get any work done now!!! laughlaughlaugh 😆😆😆

Sounds like PH should start a new ongoing series of articles along the lines of 'your £100k garage'; what retro car and modifications would you choose, with £100k and only one vehicle to spend it on?.

It's all well and good going and getting an 'off the shelf' super-car, but working with guys like this to get a truely bespoke resto-mod classic that can be driven regularly, really appeals.

One of the highlights for me, was watching them absolutely nail that Alfa from the pitlane. It absolutely flew and sounded awesome. I'll try and find a video.

I was pondering how much fun a Manta 400 replica would be with a Skyline engine. One google away and there was the one they've already knocked out.

Even if I had bucket loads of cash, I couldn't imagine spending 200K modifying a common-or-garden classic like these. You'll never get it back.

To be fair, getting it back is not the point.

People have these cars because it's the ultimate (x) that they want custom built for themselves. They're not for selling on.

Me? I'd love Murray's Mk1 Escort but I'd also like to get them to do a custom 60's Mini with proper rustproofing.

There is an NSU RO80 in the pics. The turquoise saloon.

I do hope they will be sympathetic. That car MUST keep its rotary engine. Please.

Added to the fact that if you "invest" £200k into a common-or-garden variety brand new Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Mclaren you'll never get that back either... In fact, very very unlikely to get anything near the asking price unless you keep it forever and never drive it, or pay for a limited special.

So, to put it another way, you have £200k to spend on a car "for fun". Do you buy a Ferrari, or made something unique, one off and with a lot more style (potentially - see that Alfa, just soooooo cool)

Love the cars and what they are doing, but what about the SVA rules where if you start modifying suspension, drivetrain, brakes, and shells, it gets to a point where the vehicle needs to comply with many modern regulations? How do they get round that?
I only ask because a mate has a Capri with an LS1 fitted, with suspension and brake upgrades etc and all to make it safer, but the project has come to a stop because he fears it will not be possible to pass and SVA test?

When I owned my Triumph 2000 I always dreamed of doing something like this, a full strip back and rust protection to the body shell, perhaps a Triumph 2.5 engine (or BMW engine - I was never quite sure) with EFi and electronic ignition, electric windows and central locking, Air Conditioning, better brakes, high ratio final drive for relaxed cruising, proper leather seats rather than vinyl... and probably more things that I can't even think of yet

I know full well that if I had won the lottery and spunked a load of money on it I would have never got it back, but as someone above said - that is besides the point!

Doesn’t need an IVA if it scores under 8 on the assessment. It has to be significantly different to be classed as radically altered and require an IVA. As long as the shell isn’t radically altered it’s pretty tough to score 9
