I think one problem for Bloodhound is that the target is "a number on a stick", in units only used by a couple of countries.

Breaking the sound barrier was epic, but what is unique about 1000 mph compared to 999 or 1001?

Harsh but true time,
The money burnt on bloated salaries and frivolous junket spending is possibly the main factor behind this latest funding predicament, i saw at first hand at several F.O.S events the wastefullness, money squandered without a care, ie in the camping area 2017 approx 10 tents/cars/ vans were occupying an exclusive SSC area large enough for maybe 50 mere mortals, i cannot believe goodwood gave that space for free,.....one has to wonder how much Noble &co has "earnt " from just this project ,there's many a good reason for starting from scratch each time ,enhanced salary ,and associated benefits being one of them.
I for one will no longer donate to this project ,admirable in many ways tho it was, much of our cash was wasted.
Just revisted this thread & this got my goat....again.

For an 18month oeriod I had to find an alterniativecontract, that I managed to negotiate a 3-4days week for, the 1-2 days a week I wasn't there I was at Bloodhound working for free, not delayed invoice, free. Bloated salries, you cockwomble.

You don't need wild, foundationless speculation about the effects of sonic shockwaves to explain why a lightweight, suspensionless car, running on metal wheels, might momentarily lose contact with the ground at high speed.
Except that he may be right. I attended a lecture by Andy Green several years ago in the early days of this project and one thing he commented on was the unknown effect of shockwaves rebounding from a layer of rock that was known to be below the surface at Hakspeen. Unknown because, like so much of running a car at 1,000mph, nothing like it has ever been done before so, unlike the Thrust SSC calculations, there was no empirical or model-based data to cross-check against.

Shame. I donated to it but I guess finding another £25m was a big ask.

According to the BBC story the car is available to buy for £250,000. Although I haven't seen it advertised anywhere. Autotrader? Ebay?

Looks like a buyer for the whole project has been found so it may still go ahead. Some Yorkshire chap has stepped up. thumbup
