Do either of these 2 newbs have a petrolhead history ?
I'm not optimistic that these are a good choice.
Paddy has - I recall watching at least one program where he doing his full bike test, although I can't see it on IMDB.I'm not optimistic that these are a good choice.
I imagine their priority, following the last few seasons, has been to get at least one capable presenter.

His first pay cheque for Phoenix Nights went towards a blob eye STI Impreza, for that alone I can't fault him. I imagine their priority, following the last few seasons, has been to get at least one capable presenter.
For the record, I do actually like Guy Martin. His programmes, especially the challenge ones, I always enjoy.
However, I don’t think he’d have time for dicking about with Paddy and Flintoff, hence just being a bit bored of the whole thing.
His personality seems perfectly agreeable, but I’ve never met him to be honest. It’s just either him, or the people who produce and edit his shows, seem to really milk a stereotype he may or may not fit in to. Gets everyone all misty eyed, wishing they could go down the pub with him for a pint of warm ale and a crack about old spanners.

to those that say they wont bother tuning in - piffle I say. Youll watch it.
I will watch it and give the new presenters a chance. Loads were up in arms about Matt le Blanc but then he started to gel into place on the show and people started to actually like the guys style.
Its pointless saying much more than casting any aspersions on them at this stage........let them have a go first then we can comment.

Harris - whilst not a natural presenter, his passion for cars shines through in his pieces and is capable of keeping his knowledge viewer friendly to the wider audience or going super car geek for the car nerds.
Paddy and Freddy - Whilst I might question their petrolhead credentials, I think they might work well together. It might be a bit like A League of Their Own - I cant stand the presenters but it works well together and their relationships show through their banter.
So I think the new lineup will appeal to the wider audience, but I think proper petrol heads will need convincing of Paddy and Freddy's automotive credentials before we all get behind it!
I do wish them luck, but sadly, I don't believe it will ever reach the popularity it once had with Clarkson, Hammond and May.

Someone sold him a fairly high value item and he was perfectly pleasant, spent a while chatting and completing the transaction, same chap saw him out and about a few days later by chance and asked him how he was getting on with said item and was completely blanked, could always have been misinterpreted or caught him at a bad moment but I dont think so, the guy was really annoyed, disappointed and embarrassed.
thank you. An asshat then...V8RX7 said:
Then why have they kept Harris ?
I can't watch him for more than 5 mins - his gift is making exciting things appear very dull
He adds the car bit, plus the appeal to middle England and the educated while costing £5. I can't watch him for more than 5 mins - his gift is making exciting things appear very dull
I suspect the departing of MLB has more to do with money than is being reported. Maybe one of the core drivers for the initial expense was international appeal and if the show has not been sufficiently successful in its overseas sales then this may be why they’ve opted for a brace of Northern ‘local’ lads so as to focus on enough domestic appeal to continue justifying the prime TV slot.
It is also entirely plausible that Rory did not resonate outside of the Home Counties hence his migration to the more specialist program that occupies a channel and time slot/delivery mechanism that is more appropriate for his narrower domestic demographic?
When you consider the positioning of the main show then Flintoff does appeal to a strong generic U.K. demographic as does McGuiness. Children know who they are. Young adults know who they are. Mothers know who they are. And a pair of Northern men of the people mocking the educated, sophisticated southerner is a well trodden and proven BBC formula.
How they will tie in the car element is going to be interesting. My gut feeling is that the show will generally work around a level of humour that I personally don’t find all that amusing but am still likely to find preferable to Poldark. And if it is a show that my whole family will watch then I’m more than happy to sacrifice my own selfish needs.

Will give him the benefit of the doubt as I wasnt there but it does sound like it may be a possibility, must be difficult being a celeb with people in your face all the time, might have had a drink or two and been in the middle of something.
Hard to know how celeb types deal with all that crap, but it does come in the job description. A smile or wave of acknowledgment is an easy win though.Piginapoke said:

Clarkson and Le Blanc had enough charisma to lead the show, the new line up is made up of supporting players. And fairly dull ones at that. Maybe Keith Lemon will be the new Stig...
Couldn't disagree more about MLB. He always looked scripted and stiff on screen. DoubleD said:

Bring back Chris Goffey and William Woollard.
Let's have some in depth road tests of 1.0l Kia Picanto's etc.
Leave the Ferrari stuff to Clarkson and his sidekicks.

Here’s a simple questionnaire for the new guys, I wouldn’t consider these too difficult for any self respecting petrolhead.
Where did Audi get the name TT ?
Which manufactuer produced the 037 ?
What’s the cubic capacity of the 2CV in its final years ?
The Aston Martin DBS used the front indecator & sidelights from which other manufacturer and what was the model ?
What year did Caterham take over production of the Lotus Seven ?
Which Mk1 Escort produced the most BHP ?

I'll still watch Top Gear though, will just fast forward through the 'entertainment' stuff to the more interesting car bits. Granted it wasn't an easy job to relaunch the show, but oh my have the producers made a fk up of it!
