depends how much I won but I agree, an f10 is still stupidly fast, has an equally good interior, drives very well and is much better value
Sorry, the interior of the F10 didn’t feel anywhere near as good as the new one does.

Not sure where £45,000 comes from: A C63s is 75k and suffers from equally bad depreciation!

from: £45,830

guess it's wrong then!
Autocar do seem to be on a windup with their proof reading and stats sometimes. I think this is a case of 7 and 4 being next to each other on a full size keyboard.

Or, maybe they are taking the actual value of the car after its first drive off the forecourt when it loses 30k! Speaking from experiance, unfortunately!

That is awesome to be fair. I love how ordinary the M5 has always looked as well, to someone not interested in cars its just a run of the mill 5 series. Stealth central. cool
0-124mph in 10.8 seconds hahhahaha thats magnificent.
I find it hard to get excited over tyre advancements, automatic gearbox improvements, and computer programmers. Because lets be honest - that's pretty much what we get these days.

You forgot power improvements too..... Because a 100-200km/h time isn't improved by tyre advancements, there may be 1 gear change, POSSIBLY 2 in that, but the F10 was hardly a slow changer, etc....so the rest is by power and aerodynamics.

Yes and I do get what you're saying, I just find the figures pretty impressive for something that weighs so much. Plus I've always admired the M5 as a performance car.

In my humble opinion, the M5 has lost its way from its sports sedan roots. This car is overweight, overpowered, overpriced, and unbalanced as a proper sports saloon.

My last favorite M5 was the V10... It had its flaws, but it was at least exciting!

The last two iterations of the M5 have been "cold" because of that engine... While powerful, they are so characterless they have to make up fake 'performance' engine sound to pump into the cabin. That is the ultimate fail in a sports saloon imo. I also am not in favor of the move to AWD; which I know was done to corral the power, but adds more weight and removes the rear-wheel dynamism that I love about performance driving. I know it can be turned off.

I consider the Lexus GS-F the modern spiritual successor to the E39 M5. Imo Lexus' biggest problem or weakness is that they don't make manual transmissions!

In the words of the monkey himself - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIHQfqwLYys

I know that is the last edition model, but it highlights the 'problems' that I suspect are still present in this iteration...

That M5 looked and sounded great to me, I loved my F10 M5, Harris also calls it a superlative car with a magnificent engine, so I'm confused

All M5s have always been pretty heavy for the times, look at the E39, for example! Far from a lightweight! Overpowered.....Could have been said of the others at the time of release, too. Overpriced....they aren't really any more than they have been, adjusting for inflation and standard equipment. Unbalanced? Have you driven one? This seems to suggest that it's very well balanced and handles rather well. What did you find when you drove it that made the new M5 competition unbalanced?

The F10 M5 is a superb car, a magnificent touring machine

The E60 is sublime when on it, especially accelerating through 100, but not so good as an everyday car.

This new machine is blindingly fast, what a thing. The sheer size of it is putting me off for now, but i’m sure i’ll get one eventually, I can’t seem to help myself.

I don’t like the Mercs at all, too bling and drug dealer for me.

Audi RAS estates look superb, I love them.

I aspire to be like JBM M5, cruising through retirement in a different dream machine every six months, I salute you sir!

I love the idea of one but I already spend most of my time panicking when the post comes in the days after using the available performance of mine, which is a few rungs down.

From a standstill you are into potential jail time in 10 and bit seconds, once moving, its going to be what, 6 or 7 seconds ?

Its not for B roads at two tonnes, on motorways a 520D will go far faster than anyone actually needs, so its degrees of overkill. I just spent two hours travelling and it was trucks preventing progress and even if it was empty, average speed cameras, even the blistering speed of a Skoda Octavia Greenline was not needed.

I love the fact it exists but it just seems at odds with motoring in the UK nowadays, suppose you dont have to use it but driving it like that must be an exercise in patience and frustration, I know some will call me a wimp but try getting a summons for well over 100 mph on an NSL and see how much bluster and bravado you can muster.

Can't comment on the drive as I haven't driven one, but taken at face value, what a fabulous thing. 3-and-a-bit seconds to 60 in a big, spacious, comfortable, kit-laden and beautifully finished four door saloon, without a spoiler or splitter in sight.

Yes, it's a bit lardy, but the M5 always has been, relatively speaking. This goes right back to the E28 which was 1,500kg at a time when similar sized cooking family saloons were getting on for half a tonne lighter. Equally, the E28's £31,295 list price in 1985, adjusted for inflation, comes to £90,145 today, so this 'overpriced' BMW is only £6k more expensive than its earliest ancestor, relatively speaking.

There are some rose tints at work in places here, it would seem.

I have to admit I’m not a BMW fan at all, the only very notable exceptions being the M5 and the S1000RR, this M5 hasn’t changed that I love it!, and like another poster said earlier I love how it looks so subtle, although if I was going to spend £100k on a super saloon I’d probably still go for the E63.
Not sure the Panamera Turbo actually qualifies for being in the £100k bracket but I’d have one of them over this too.
Sadly I’m not going to be making this choice any time soon frown

Just don't get it anymore. Followed a bloke in one of these yesterday and everything was 5 mph under the limit. Road opened up and exactly the same. Didn't know it was a 90k car or 600bhp 😲. Didn't even sound great.

Straight after that had a bloke in a brand new 535d GT constantly up my backside going through average speed 60mph cameras. Dont think you would of got a rizla paper between us ( I WAS DOING 65). I pulled over to let him past and he overtook then dropped down to 50 in the outside lane and stuck at it! Grrrrrr

90k! Always wanted an atom and a nice V8 . you could easily achieve that with some great looking cars for this price. 50k atom and 35k M5 or M3 ( V10 M5 ) and 10k on a daily mule.

Ive loved the atom for years, it's the only thing I've been in that accelerates and decelerates like my 1000cc bike on/off the throttle due to lack of weight.

Insanely capable machine. Almost scary how many boxes it ticks.

Only issue i would have is all that black glossy plastic on the dash and centre console. Anyone else think that looks extremely naff?

The guy in the M5 was just smoking around, effortlessly cruising, wafting if you like

The guy in the GT was probably driving a borrowed car as his Audi was in for a service
