I have been contacted by a few potential buyers requesting a photo of my V5C document.

Is this the norm? I know that most of the details can be obtained anyway (such as the VIN) however I do feel a little uncomfortable with all of my details and the previous owners' details being on there.

What is your view on this, am I just being paranoid?

Take a photo with all details covered and just the method of contact they have with you on a post-it attached. Or their name. Shows you have it, but doesn't show any of your details.

Be aware that they might be "fishing" for a pic of a V5 which they can then use to scam others. However, it is necessary to have some information from the V5 in order to undertake a full HPI check.

If the prospective buyer is coming a long way I would send them a picture of the V5, but cover up your address and also add a large note on the V5 with the date of the picture and your email address, so that anyone sent that picture can contact you.

Don't see an issue, throw in both sides of your bank cards and driving licence and a good close up of your passport.

Seriously though, if your selling your car privately then surely any genuine buyer would want to view the car for the car itself before paperwork. It's right they should ask if you have it, then it's on your toes if you didn't and they came some distance to view.
Honestly, I'd treat any request like that as a scam.I wouldn't send anything at all, tell them to come and view it and they can check the paperwork there and the then, if they say no and come up with excuses then I would be immediately suspicious.
