I asked my independent about doing the chains and their opinion was don't bother. Its an engine out job and costs £1k. If it fails it is normally just a few bits need rebuilding and typically costs from them about £1.2K.
Sometimes they will snap a rocker or two, sometimes they will bend valves, sometimes they crack the camshafts or the camshaft housing and sometimes the valve heads break off and mash the head and pistons. It very hit and miss as to how much damage is done.

It was proven my car had a fault replayed to supplying the engine with oil. Evans hakshaw paid 2 grand under our extended policy and we paid 1 grand of the bill even though I shouldn't have paid anything. They had my car for 4 months so just wanted it back
If it was proven your car had a fault im genuinely interested in how come you ended up paying a grand towards it?? They tried to say that because BMW charged more per hour than they did our warranty woukd only cover 2k of it... But it only said on warranty that repairs were up to value of car. I argued with them and I waited 4 months for the car to be given the go ahead from Evans Halshaw to be fixed so in the end I gave up arguing and paid the 1k

Evans Halshaw only pay £35 per hour plus VAT, this always leaves the customer contributing towards it, the only warranty company that i’ve Come across so far who didn’t question our hourly rate was warranty direct.
The best bit was when I worked at a EH dealership the service manager used to try and say we had to charge customers the difference between the warranty rate and the retail rate, even if they’d bought the car from us!Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
