The Ateca & Macan have very similar cabin accommodation and boot size.
I thought Macan was basically an Audi Q5 - surely be quite a bit bigger than Ateca? Os is the space mostly taken up by fitting the engine lengthways? The seats in the Porsche & bigger & plastic backed, which can’t help. And the boot in the Porsche is logger whilst the Ateca’s boot is tall.

the 280bhp Alfa Stelvio is probably the closest rival, costs a few grand more though and isn't quite as quick
It's about 10k more. But the Mrs is looking for other options than a stelvio, this may be it. GranCab said:

Surely it's not a matter of opinion or style but a matter of fact. How does the manufacturer write it? https://www.seat.com/
Sorry, I'm not making this comments section any less pedantic!
Coz you have to write web addresses in lower case ?Sorry, I'm not making this comments section any less pedantic!

Shame they don't do a black badge pack or something to make it less like someone has used a home made badge kit from eBay.
On a positive note My wife 2.0tsi Ateca with a lowly 190bhp goes ok so if imagine this will be a laugh to drive. Add a tuning box and you are into sub 5 sec 0 to 60 and alot of in gear shove in a family suv!
They could have made more of an effort in the cabin as people have said, ours has all toys and is pleasant enough if a bit dull.

Not wanting to get into a debate around which is the "better car", but the Ateca is in a different league when it comes to performance - 62 in 5.2 secs versus 6.7 secs (without sports chrono); 154mph flat out versus 139mpn. 280bhp Stelvio is much closer..
There is also a 300bhp jaguar E pace, £10k more than the Ateca and performance mid way between the two. Awkward looking thing and the interior plastics probably worse than the Seat.Lemming Train said:
38.2 mpg in a 4x4 size & weight vehicle with a 300hp 2.0 turbo petrol engine?
Yeah righto....
Well for a 4x4 size car, this car is (and all the one sharing the platform are) relatively light. With the added point that the given kerb weight will actually include some equipment already... The competion mentioned will be 200-300kg heavier irl with some options, all with 4-pot engines.... Yeah righto....
And why criticize this car for the given mpg figure, it is the same for all modern cars? Point is when driven carefully you could get 38mpg (WLTP is a bit more realistic than before) which is good but that is hardly the point of this car.
For reference, on one very calm and long cross country drive (traffic), I once did 44mpg in our Leon ST Cupra (bit lighter and lower but running 375hp) ... Average is 32mpg incl cross country performance drives, take out those and day to day normal driving average (keeping limits +5 maybe, with the odd squirt in acceleration) is 35mpg... Figures average from brimming the tank over 30k miles.

It’s a parts bin product with no brand heritage.
Exactly this. And how good/bad the product is will be inevitably overshadowed by the utter bks that is SEAT marketing. As for SEAT having no heritage? What is that? They certainly have history and quite a few CUPRA'S trough the years, even though they aren't very old/vintage.
If I sound like a fanboy, I'm not, I just buy whatever brand suits me best at a given time, this time round is was a SEAT - or should I say CUPRA? ° - and perfectly happy with it...
