Macboy: it's called perspective, the McLaren is a computer rendering taken from infinity perspective or close to that, the real pic has real perspective, so basically the nose and tail are angled away and further from you than the middle of the car and look smaller/shorter.
It's not perspective - it's simply that they have shortened the horizontal and changed the shape of the car by squashing the ends as they have reformatted the picture. The Mclaren is a studio shot not a rendering and there's simply no way that you can put the foreshortening of both ends down to perspective. As another poster said, PH are simply terrible at formatting pictures. I did this in 60 seconds of mucking about with the horizontal on the studio shot. PH simply aren't keeping the original proportions of the image when they are rendered. Look at the shot from above! A 720s looks nothing like that it plan view. That's the dimensions of a Stratos.

Next, your original comparison is off, basically the outside pic is scaled smaller. The car and wheelbase is shorter, and the car is lower. Which is tell tale for diferent sizing.
With the matching size, the outside pic will still look shorter because of perspective. You 60 sec job has oval wheels, which is courtesy of wrongly resizing the pic. The outside PH pic has round wheels so no such thing happening. Also notice on the PH outside shot, you can actually see the back side of the front number plate. Either there is perspective at work, or PH can do magic and see around corners...
Can't believe I took the time to respond to this, but I still have some faith in people and perhaps someone can learn. I also believe some people much rather think PH will go to great length to photoshop images to fool readers, rather then to understand basic concepts of geometry...
FWIW, I've earned my living as a photographer in a previous life, and I've seen plenty 720S in real life up close, and I can see nothing wrong with the PH image. In the studio/rendered image, the car does look a bit elongated... by lack of perspective. Plenty youtube vids on the subject...

Cage basically ruins the rear storage shelf then?
I was thinking the same. There is no opening hatch on these so that cage means you can't put any bags on that shelf.
I can see the need for the harness bar on a 'track-pack' car, but what are the roll-hoops going to do that the full carbon Mono-cell 2 doesn't already do?

But to be honest I don't know any owners that use it for storage
Most use the big old boot in the front.

If you want music, spec the Bowers & Wilkins stereo.
Actually, don’t. It’s a complete an utter embarrassment for the money. The Seat Audio (330 quid option) I have in my Mii utterly embarrasses this so called “premium” B&W system. If you want music, spec the Bowers & Wilkins stereo.
If you like a top end flatter than Theresa May’s speeches and the door cards vibrating away like panels on a clown car, it might be worth considering...

OK, one more try. I'm pretty sure it is a rendering, studio shots are very expensive and if this is a studio shot, it is a very dull one. Hard to tell on such a compressed image. If it is a studio shot, it was taken by a very long lens. Too long to be practical, but long perspective does help if you want to make it work in a configurator.

I've done 25k miles in mine and I can count on one hand how many times I've used the stereo
The LT has the Meridian system and I really could tell you if it's better than the standard system.
Also I'm guessing used buyers won't recognise any value in the upgraded stereo in a car of this nature

Surely I can't be the only one who sees these weirdly altered pictures and thinks "yeah it would be much better if it looked like that". The side view of the 720s is one of its least attractive aspects to my eye and the lower shot here is the Mclaren press image, the upper from this article. The car in this article has been shortened and "scrunched" to make it squat and purposeful in a way that the 720s actually isn't. Or is it some weird formatting thing that only happens with articles on Mclaren on my Mac?

Whats the point of the roll bar hoops, it isn't a convertible, why not just take the bar round at roof height ?
six point harness for track work, the seat is set up with clip on anchors and a a slot in the base for it.you NEED it even with those seats on a track in that car
Actually the bar looks as if it is higher than the harness slots in the seats (straps should go down after exiting the seat) and they would foul on the shelf edge as well ?

ETA: and the wheelbase is at least 4” shorter
Edited by Kenny Powers on Friday 2nd November 09:10
And I suppose there also another reason why the wheelbase is too short?
ETA: the images are only stretched in the forum. When viewed as a direct link they are fine. So basically it’s not the images, it’s the forum software screwing things up. On iPad at least.
