Imagine James Bond leading his latest lady friend out to one of these, “Why Mister Bond, I thought you were a suave secret agent, not a married father of 2 with a Labrador.”
It's 2018, I suspect no one buys cars that way. And if they did Aston would have trouble. It's clients would at best be deemed bounders; at worst misogynistic sex pests by the me too movement. Seriously, James Bond? He s not real dude.
Anyway, probably looks better in the flesh. I'd rather a G Wagon as my next school run battle bus.

This isn’t that. I expect buyers will get comments along the lines of “When you said you had an Aston I thought you meant a sports car.”
Aston bashing is on trend, though oddly at a time when the cars being produced are now a objectively judged as being as good as their rivals. That's not always been the case - and the DBX, while upsetting purists, makes sense when it's a sector that prestige manufacturers are tapping into and charging big bucks for (and customers are willing to pay for it). If it's successful, it allows the firm to spend more money developing sports cars, GT cars and hyper cars - that's no bad thing.
It often gets forgotten but these things are not designed as 4x4’s in the mould of a Land Rover/Range Rover/g wagon/land cruiser. They are much closer to estate cars with 4x4 and slightly raised suspension with even more stupidly sized wheels. This particular one is surely best compared to something like an Audi A6 all road or a Merc e class outback or whatever they call it.

But ask people what they think of when they hear Aston Martin and they’ll say James Bond. That is the image they are buying in to.

It's a two way street - remember that the other prestige sports car manufacturers have all gone down that road already (Bentley, Lambo, Ferrari). It's only McLaren left... and they're a week late on their next new car announcement, so never say never This isn’t that. I expect buyers will get comments along the lines of “When you said you had an Aston I thought you meant a sports car.”

As for all the boohoo, wah wah wailing - you sound silly. Every time this topic comes up, you sound silly.
I love it when people cry about a car they have no intention to even buy, anyway.
It’s almost as if they don’t want the company to succeed and actually make enough money to sustain itself for the future...for a change.

Even Morgan are in on it - they're sticking with the traditional wooden frame though if this spy shot is anything to go by

It’s about integrity and legacy. Sports car companies and their designers should stop this mission creep. Anyone want a Land Rover mid-engined two seater sports? Don’t think so. It’s a nonsense. Leave 4x4s to 4x4 manufacturers and treasure the provenance of Aston, not bastardise it, chasing markets in Russia, the Middle East and China.
It's very interesting when people denigrate AM, Jag, Lambo et al for developing vehicles that sell well. British industry is infamous for stubbornly sticking to a tried and tested formula and ignoring the competition. Look at the British car & motorbike industries of bygone years, refused to modernise their products and tried to dictate to the marketplace what consumers should buy. It was an utter failure think BSA, Triumph, British Leyland, the list is as long as your arm. And these decisions were always taken by management.
To the detractors, what do you want? A car company that's with current trends and financially viable or a company stuck in the past and financially on a cliff edge?
Bring on a Lotus/Jag/Ferrari/Lambo SUV if it means the company survives and if the marketplace buys 2 seater sports cars, these companies will still hopefully make them.

Brilliant. My favourite part of this story is the bit where they spend hours applying camouflage, then stick dirty great Aston Martin DBX stickers all over it.
