I just think its the Pistonhead way tbh. Or the internet way. Its not cool to actually like something. Everyone feels the need to be edgy and criticise everything. Doesn't matter what it is. People have already written off the new Supra as too expensive and not fast enough. Before the positive owner reviews were published, people were writing off the Alpine "too expensive, wont sell, bla, bla".

Admittedly I'm slightly hypocritical having dissed the M340 the other day, but I played that video and thought "wow, what a car!"
Or people say they don’t like the car because they don’t actually like the looks or some other aspect.

I don’t like the looks it’s nothing to do with wanting to “criticise everything” or being “cool” there’s loads of new cars I love.

I really wanted to like this car, as do many other tvr owners, many of us were disappointed when it was launched.

I’ve owned a few TVRs and want to see the relaunch succeed but simply don’t like this car at all.

It shouldn’t be hard to understand that people just don’t like the way the car looks.

As a "current" Griff owner I'll admit I was hugely disappointed when the new car was revealed (not that I could afford it!) but I've since seen and heard it twice in the flesh and came away wishing I'd worked harder at school smile It really is so much better than pictures suggest (albeit admittedly not on the Tuscan/Sagaris level of desirability) and comes across as a really quality product. As for the sound it's quite unlike any other car I've heard before, not surprising perhaps given the exhaust arrangement. It instantly had me thinking of cars from the original Mad Max films. Properly evil! It even has a slight supercharged note to it, even though it's obviously NA. I think the new owners are going to be chuffed to bits when they get theirs.

he's not wrong!

this new Griffith won't be the affordable British performance car that I've been hankering for

but I do believe that it will be commercially solvent -- which is, as history testifies to us keen on motors, a rather good thing indeed

Every other thread, about every other car

"Needs a V8"

"its Too quiet"

"Not enough power"

"But its not RWD"

"Its no TVR is it ?"

"Too many electronic nannies"

"Needs a Manual box"

"Wish it was more analogue"

All those boxes get ticked by a new TVR coming in, then

"It makes a farty noise"

"Its not as good as my old one"

"It really shouldn't have a reliable Ford V8, the should put the wonky old homemade one in"

"Interior isnt as nice as the ones made by multi, multi billion long established corporations"

"Not good looking enough) I sort of agree in part, but its perfectly alright

"I cant buy one yet despite it not being released and I wouldn't buy one anyway"

"It isnt available for £19,995"

If they addressed all those issues,

"It cant change from a car to a crime fighting robot"

"I cant fit my nan and grandad in the back"

"I bet it doesnt do 45 to the gallon like my Passat tdi"

"Something about Brexit crobarred in"

"Matron !"

I can’t see this being anything but a limited run followed by a funding cry for help and death. World has moved on and though the die hard all over it hardly any will buy and they need to attract new buyers in a different age. I’d love to see it work and sell, I just can’t see it doing that, sorry.

Really wish TVR all the best with this one, watching with interest.

Wouldn't take much to sort the noise out, a year after and I reckon we'd see aftermarket performance options to make a really wild thing indeed.

What sort of performance is to be expected standard? Speculation on lap times with benchmark cars?

Is the laughter in the car at the end directed to everyone who put a deposit on this car before seeing what it looked like?

I'd love to see and hear one in the flesh of course but as a previous Tuscan S and Cerbera owner, I have my own idea of what I'd like a TVR to be and this isn't it.

That's not to say I wouldn't want one if I had the money and I saw one for real!

I think if I had some money burning a hole in my pocket, I'd be more inclined to buy a revised Speed Six engined Tuscan.

If I had McLaren MSO money I'd perhaps commission a wide body Tuscan S (Sagaris chassis).

It sounds like a V8 race car which is hardly surprising given the intent of this car.

I wish them every success, in many ways the car is an anachronism, its mixture of what are now old fashioned criteria with proper 21st century technology is something unique in todays market place.

Seriously the people continually knocking TVR have to ask themselves if they really are petrolheads, or if they come on here just have a moan about stuff.

Wont pointing out what’s going wrong with this project - car’s controversial front and narrow flat sides and poor communication from TVR and constant delays and missed deadlines be more likely to lead to success and sales that just pretending it’s all awesome?

I think it’s unlikely this car will succeed for the above reasons, loads of other people agree, it’s not too late to fix most of it either.

I’d love to see TVR back and making cars again, most of us came here because we had TVRs and this was a TVR site. There’s a lot of things clearly going wrong with this project though.

i think ph enables people with a passing interest in cars and status to have a voice they didn't have pre-internet. In reality we have a good amount of choice of sports cars now from 20k to £1m. TVR didn't sell that many when they were selling futuristic fast spaceships. Even when Porsche sold sports cars they didn't sell that many. With the modular design and bought-in engine they can hopefully survive along with other niche players. Petrolheads always were a niche market.

I think it looks a lot better in the vid than early stills, colour is one of my least fav's so will look better still in most others but the exhaust sounds burst on full throttle and lastly the squint start button is annoying!

Hope TVR goes on to be a sucess again though for many, many years smile

Are most of those saying it sounds rubbish listening to it through crappy iPhone speakers? Through good quality headphones it sounds fantastic - very much reminded me of my Chimaera, especially the interior rumble - but on iPad and phone speakers it does sound both farty and lawnmower-like. You’d have to make a real hash of it to make a Ford V8 sound rubbish!

I think in the right colour it’ll look great so I’m really hoping it’ll be a success.

I'm a 'current' Griffith owner on my 2nd Griff

I'm also a 'current' T350C owner.. With about the same power as the new Grifff (LS3 T350))

And I badly want the new Griffith.

The sound in person is awesome, in the audible and feel it levels.. it is an amazing package. And the styling is modern and purposeful. I can't fault it.. (except the TVR badge is to big)

But are you actually looking for any sort of sports car?

What matters is whether Griffith appeals to a real world customer base who will stump up hard cash for it. The same issue has plagued Lotus for the last 20 years and left many others makers and dry.

The fate of Perana Z1, otherwise known (or unknown) as the AC 378 Zagato, serves as a warning from history. In concept it was very similar to the new TVR Griffith.
