RE: Charge Automotive 400hp electric Mustang
Discussion
Oddly I have less of an issue with this being electric than a four cylinder.
In a Mustang it's a V8 or nothing....well I suppose electric is nothing, in terms of the sound that is! Better than trying to beef up the noise of a four pot turbo. In an odd way I kind of like the contradiction of an old muscle car that's electric an no doubt as quick.
Overall though, I would take a V8 over an electric car any day but I dislike the idea of a watered down Mustang with a smaller petrol engine.

I really can't see the point of this.....an electric classic Mustang...eh? oh that will be 200k thank you !!!!!!
The whole point of a Muscle car is the the V8 engine, the explosion when you fire it up, the way it rocks the car from side to side at idle, the thunder and vibration when the engine is under load.
Obviously this electric version looks nice, but for gods sake the utter disappointment when you pull away with an eerie milk float sound.
The electric car revolution has hopefully,( like everything else ) been over played. Yes there will be an increase in EV's, but I fully expect to be driving a petrol V8 for decades to come.

The Gen 1 Mustang was never a muscle though. It was a pony car.The whole point of a Muscle car is the the V8 engine, the explosion when you fire it up, the way it rocks the car from side to side at idle, the thunder and vibration when the engine is under load.

My apologies, I meant the Mustangs which had a performance V8 fitted. I would not bother with a 4 or 6 cylinder engined car. Mind you lots of people are quite happy with them which is fine, but they just don't appeal to me.300bhp/ton said:

You do realise the Mustang had 6 cylinders originally and was sold with a 4 pot as early as 1973.300bhp/ton said:

while they're all saying "the electric motor", let's have a look at the petrol-powered newly-manufactured car
ps: it costs the same as this British electric version, but has more than double the range and lots better noises

Thanks for that.....I'm sitting with a glass of red next to my fossil fuelled fire, dreaming about winning the lotto and buying a brand new 60's muscle car......if only....
I love how everyone has decided how Mustangs must have an 8 cylinder engine, arranged in a V formation.
Based on what ?
56 years of the Mustang being around, in terms of even modern human history its not that long.
Things change, I like the noise a V8 makes but who says a Mustang has to have a V8, imagine if Ford brought out a V10 or V12, would that be ok or do we go all Rain Man "Mustangs must have V8's".
Who says Teslas have to have an electric motor, someone stick a V8 in one FFS.
This will out accelerate any production Mustang ever made, can always make your own V8 noises if you want, I have it on good authority some Sainsburys trolleys have full antilag fitted....

I really don't get things like this at all. I saw a converted MGB the other day and just cannot see why you would put an electric powertrain in a 'classic' type car. The whole appeal of this type of car is it's heritage.
I realise this is a new mustang rather than old, but If you're going to do an electric car do it properly and make it new and innovative rather than shoehorning it into an existing model. Especially something like the Mustang.
What does do it properly mean, most of today's designed cars look almost the same so why not try something different. Yes it has no V8 but nothing will have in the future. It looks good to me and will appeal to users in restricted areas like London. The Boys will want their toys. Let us wait until we see it in the flesh and then give our verdict.I realise this is a new mustang rather than old, but If you're going to do an electric car do it properly and make it new and innovative rather than shoehorning it into an existing model. Its a daft idea that's is missing the point. An electric run about, like a Leaf or a Zoe make sense because they are cheap to run and low maintenance. An electric luxury car like a Rolls Royce makes sense because it will be quieter, relaxing and hopefully cheaper to run. A sports or muscle car is the wrong application.

That's fair enough and probably true, the thing is you either get the V8 muscle car thing including all their many faults...........or you don't.Based on what ?
