Did we get a 50D version?
A neighbour just got himself an X5 M50D - that engine is insane. Triple turbo 376bhp and the house sized X5 gets to 60 in 5.2
Not in the 5 or 6....although many like me got the 'tweaked', mine by Schnitzer, too take them up to 50D power/performance.A neighbour just got himself an X5 M50D - that engine is insane. Triple turbo 376bhp and the house sized X5 gets to 60 in 5.2

We only received the N57S 50d engine in the X5 M50d and X6 M50d. AWD only (even though the E65 745d had a stronger engine (M67TUD44 45d: 750 Nm / N57S 50d: 740 Nm) and was RWD) and the UK wasn't offered AWD F10/F11 models - engineering problems with RHD and xDrive, apparently.
And that is Numberwang. I run an E61 pre LCi 535d and a 56plate e90 320d se man. The latter is probably a better all rounder. Zf Gearbox on the e61 (I think shared with early Aston db9s) is impressive for age. Ride quality is poor at best even on air suspension at rear. E61 doesn’t feel very torsionally stiff either. 416ft lb and 272ps makes for hilarious one tyre fires and break stands though.

I have a F11 535i. By all accounts, they are pretty rare beasts. I’m fortunate that it is pretty well specced with sport transmission, Pro Nav, HUD, Auto lights, self parking etc.
This would be my pick. Or maybe the 540. That said I genuinely don’t see many F10/11’s 535d on my commute/travels far more of the E60/61 535d vastly fewer F series
Also running a relatively rare F11 535i here. One of the early ones on a 60 plate, M Sport with the 19s, adaptive lights, pro nav, memory seats, sport auto. Its brilliant, so comfy, eats up the miles with lots of space to boot. Plenty of shove with a little over 300 bhp, and easily tuned just like the d thanks to the turbo.
Less F series, as people have pointed out already, the later x30d engine is more than enough for pretty much everyone, and indeed has performance stats to match the original x35d engines with much better economy to boot.
I'd quite fancy a new 4 series 440d whenever that comes out though, I bet it'll be a monster if diesel isn't completely killed off by then.

There will be no x35d in sub 6 series in the U.K. again I'd quite fancy a new 4 series 440d whenever that comes out though, I bet it'll be a monster if diesel isn't completely killed off by then.

Why would you want a 440d when you just said X30d engine is more than enough for pretty much everyone? Are you saying that on the behalf of everyone else apart from yourself that would like an X40d engine I'd quite fancy a new 4 series 440d whenever that comes out though, I bet it'll be a monster if diesel isn't completely killed off by then.
Think how much better again a new X35d engine would be continuing with the twin turbo theme.
In regard to the article, if my circumstances are still similar in the next year or so I'll probably sell my E60 535d for one similar to the one in the article, albeit in saloon form as I don't like estates. I am very impressed with the engine in my current car, twin turbo and auto is the best way for a diesel.

It was said at the launch. No 535/540/550d for the U.K. frankly the 535d wasn’t a big seller in the U.K. in the last model range so making it meet the emissions /City zero emission zones.
Electric/PHEV will be the route instead diesel simply will not feature in the range

Not bad in a straight line, fantastic feeling of build quality, lots of space, lovely place to be, dull as ditchwater to drive, entices you to bully other people on the motorway, tells everyone you're a Tory fktard, makes all the other tw@ts at the golf club envious. Perfect for Pistonheads, sadly.
I thought I'd pretty much nailed it re the Beemer.. I had one, it was exactly like I described above, it turned me into a BMW driver, much to my regret (I didn't vote Tory or join the golf club, obviously). So I binned it and bought something a bit more engaging. If you don't get what I'm saying, it's probably because you're a BMW driver busy tailgating some poor bugger on the motorway.
I also thought I'd nailed it re Pistonheads, but as I'm still here, I guess that's undermined my point...

Your garage isn’t updated care to share what you bought and what car history you had?If you don't get what I'm saying, it's probably because you're a BMW driver busy tailgating some poor bugger on the motorway.
