Lamborghini Miura: Pic of the Week

Need a Christmas present for that special someone? RM is selling this very soon...

All Miuras are special; you know that, we know that, everyone knows that. Some, however, are a little more special than others. Like chassis #4912, this 1971 P400 SV.

It is one of just five single sump cars sold in the USA; on return to the States from Japan in 2011 it was subject to a cosmetic and mechanical resto; it even has, believe it or not, air-con from the factory. But most importantly, the thing that makes this Miura really special is that it's the only SV finished in Bleu Medio. And doesn't it look fantastic?

We're so used to seeing Miuras in lurid greens, oranges or yellows that it's a (pleasant) surprise to see one in a more subdued colour. It says a lot, in fact, for the drama of the Miura's silhouette that it's still absolutely stunning. Who says blue with gold wheels is just for Subarus?

Unsurprisingly given the mystique that's built up around the Miura over the past half a century, this SV is not going cheap: $2.1-$2.5m, says RM Sotheby's, which is selling the car at its Peterson Museum sale in December. Still, for a unique example of perhaps the definitive supercar... alright, yeah, it's still a lot of money. Here's the desktop wallpaper if you're also $2.5m short!

Beautiful. The perfect antidote to all the fast German estates that keep cropping up on here.

That car has soul in bucketfuls. It excites me in a way all modern hypercars fail to do. Now, if only I had £2M down the back of the sofa...

The original supercar - called that by LJK Setright after driving one of the first from Sant' Agata to UK. The best looking car ever made I think- I still go weak at the knees when I see one.

Reputed;to be pretty awful to drive in some respects , and the performance never matched the claims. And who cares ?

It's the only one left still in Blue Medio.......wasn't the only one built though, as #673 and #678 originally left the factory in the same Bleu Medio and white leather combo, but #673 is now red, and #678 was one of the original 5 x SV's converted to SVJ spec by the factory and has also had a colour change, and is the ex-Nicolas Cage owned car.

It's amazing how much difference different colours can make and of course it's a question of taste, but to me, that is the best looking Miura I have ever seen.

Oh, I don't know - maybe someone who would want to actually drive one as opposed to leaving it in an air-conditioned, dehumidified cocoon???

Not really, the Muira's shortcomings (as with many cars of that period) are well, known, so you'd have to be pretty dumb (as well as rich) to buy one with your eyes that shut.......
It's the whole point of old cars (or cars that those of us old enough to remember when they were new or nearly new) they aren't like driving new cars..... rolleyes
If I was rich enough to be shopping for a Muira, the only change to factory spec I'd make would be a modern engine bay fire suppression system so my pride and joy didn't end up like many others.....

I think they are quite pretty but get over eulogised, largely irrelevant to me however, the lights look a bit wrong

I kind of prefer how the current modern Lamborghinis look.

To clarify - I meant that on the evidence of many contemporary reports in the late 60s , early 70s Miuras (not Muira ) were reported as being unpleasant to drive .But , with looks like that, I wouldn't fret too much .

Perhaps one should have a 275GTB to drive and a Miura to look at ?

I suspect it doesn't matter these days, as most of these 60s cars feel very outdated to drive now with odd positions, controls etc.

It's also, as noted above, very specific to driving position. If you're the wrong shape (e.g. long legs and short arms) you'll be completely ruined by trying to drive it.

Agreed. At Goodwood FoS a few years ago I was pottering around the Privee section, or whatever the posh section is near the house. There all number of exotic cars as expected but the one that stopped in my tracks and caused my jaw to drop (a little) was the sight of a Miura, funnily enough in a very similar shade of blue to this. I'd never seen one in the flesh before. It is a thing of beauty and utterly, utterly gorgeous.

The good news : I'm exactly the right shape and size to fit in one of these gorgeous creations, being of the Italian ape persuasion my short legs and long arms would do me proud.

The Bad news : I'm only about £2m short of my target budget at the moment. Oh well, the dream continues.

I think wee just came out.
Could drive like a lop sided boat for all I care, it's the best looking thing since side boobs were first discovered.
