To top it off it had the most exquisite sports exhaust noise that was switchable between "heaven" and "acceptable brutality"

That's what I miss the most about my N400 - simply spine-tingling and matters so much more than whether the top speed is 180mph or 190mph.

So, we can't talk about it if we can't afford it? Better close the F1 board then.

Anyone notice the R8 in the Hankook tyres ad?

They used the Mk1. I assume they could have used pretty much any model they fancied so I think that's a nod to the aesthetics of the mk1 in my book.
Of course they can and do. But opinion does not outweigh facts and opinion is not of much value when it’s I’ll informed. That’s the point people are making. You are talking from the standpoint of ignorance. Doesn’t mean you can’t have a view or share it, just expect people to question you on it if it sounds daft.

The comparisons between the TT and R8 are batst. One is a front engined hatchback with the proportions of a hatchback. The other is a supercar.
I agree.

But it doesn't mean Jabba The Hut didn't sit on top of a TT to get the R8 shape biggrin

I have a TTS and R8RWS
You cannot compare them. The n/a V10 is stunning.
The TT is very quick but ordinary.
I requested a GT3 touring but was unsuccessful and offered a GtS. After owning a 997 and trying to find something special about the 991 I decided to widen the search for a sports car.
I looked at a 570s but the doors and 200 mile drive to get it fixed we’re off putting .
Glad to drive something so good .

Beautiful. I love my 'stealth' black car, but if I was buying again I'd definitely look to get a Sepang (?) blue one.

Sepang blue with carbon yes. The only other I'd consider is a v10 in white and full carbon (manual) but I hate white cars generally as a pain to keep immaculate.

Whoa, hold on there. "You are talking from the standpoint of ignorance." I'm talking about the way the R8 looks, I've seen loads of them and they do bear a familial similarity to the TT. There's no ignorance there. It is bleedin' obvious and it has got worse since the Gen1/Mk1. Not sure whether the TT has evolved to more closer resemble the R8 or vice versa but they do look similar. That is simply an opinion but one which I demonstrated "facts" to support it in one of my posts.

Aren't people just saying that a TTRS (RS not S) has 95% of the pace of the R8 for 33% of the price? It more or less has half the V10 engine of course wink For "mere mortals" the TTRS is almost there and for the "considerably richer than yow" crowd the R8 is better of course albeit not available to the vast majority of car buyers. I'd have the R8 money no object but money or lack of it is where a lot of us sit.

TX.

I think the point was that a few posters were fixated on only pace - where the R8 and TTRS are quite close.

There are a lot of other aspects to consider that IMHO widens that gap considerably.

By way of an example take the price out of the equation and consider a fifty grand gen1 R8 vs. similarly priced TTRS. IMHO the R8 beats the TTRS comprehensively in most areas - the engineering, the engine location, the engine capacity, the engine/exhaust noise, how the car drives, how it feels on the road, how it looks. Maybe even how people respond to it.

And going back to comparing the new R8 vs a new TTRS ... I still think for those that can afford both the R8 offers something the TTRS never can.

BTW - I love both cars, and if I ever need anything more practical a TTRS would be on my shopping list. But when I'm on my death bed the smile on my face will be the day I stood next to my new (to me) R8 and felt I'd gone to petrol heaven.

I think that is a great way to look at it.
And indeed if I had £50k burning a hole in my pocket - it would go straight on that R8 - I wouldn't even consider the TT.

I also.think the R8 would work out the cheaper car to own in the long run (taking in to account all costs, including depreciation).

Big 2yr service at Audi came in at 760 quid on mine. Didn't need plugs tho as done inbetween so pushing 900 quid but very respectable for such a car every 2 yrs. Interim oil changes around 400 all main dealer.
Panels and parts prices are however minty but it was a near 95k car new. Wings etc £2500 each, bonnet 4k if I recall, wing mirror £900, rear light lenses 1k etc etc.
Tracker and alarm needed but not seen theft reports like other Audi performance cars?

In a year mine has cost me 2 grand in service, new tyres, a rear brake light and MOT. Insurance wasn't that bad either. Road tax is chunky. And it likes a drink. But it's barely lost any value on what I paid for it.

Suggest that those who think the R8 is not a supercar to try one!

Had a great day out with some McLaren chums today and I certainly didn't feel like the poor relation.....!
