RE: Eighth generation Porsche 911 officially unveiled
Discussion
It needs a little black dress around that posterior. At this rate the NIssan GTR will look like Twiggy.
Wider and 55kg more, the car is morphing into something else rather than punting down a b road. Would be interesting to compare rear of 993 to 997 to this. Germans have been banned from changing the front since the 996 comments, they are probably still smarting.
Will be good to drive no doubt, base car is now £100k though.... yeepers, I need to get off social security sooner rather than later at this rate.

Love a 911 and this looks really nice. If I didn't need to transport a load of people/objects most of the time then yes I would probably buy one - probably a slightly older 997.2 though.
That said are 911's really seen as drivers cars anymore? Despite seeing loads around daily, can't remember the last time I saw a 911 being driven with any sort of conviction, normally just trundling along with other traffic even if road conditions allow for a much better rate of progress being made. All the tech and different driver modes would suggest it is perhaps appealing to a different sector. Do we really need multiple driver modes? Why not just set a car up right in the first place?
I'd suggest that this is because driving with any sort of real conviction is the sort of thing one does when there's no one else on the road. That said are 911's really seen as drivers cars anymore? People are often seduced by the notion that they're all daily drivers, pottering about fulfilling a middle age fantasy.
They're not. Driven hard, they are mega.
I've lusted after a 911 since childhood, back in the good old air cooled big whale tail days.
However, since the water cooled generation they've just got bigger and bigger, I'd still love one to tick that box in life, but I just don't think Porsche are the brand they were anymore... it's white goods in my eyes, and the cost is just out of control now for me.
I love my CGTS and at nearly 4 years old I keep thinking it's time to move on, but I just cannot find anything I want to replace it with, certainly nothing with a Porsche badge anymore.

It don't look no different to what they've been churning out for the last 20 years, just not special anymore. Seeing a 911 was a rarity once now they're just another nice car.
This is what Porsche do best. Subtle differences, however keeping the classic shape. Beautiful. If you want 'something different' buy a Ferrari or Lamborghini - both equally who have ruined their styles over the last twenty years.

I'd love to know the percentage of people that get these for driving hard and those that wouldn't know driving hard if it bit them in the arse. Like Rolex, good quality but let's not get carried away thinking everyone that owns one is a horologist. I never thought i'd see the day when performance figures became a bit of a blur. It seems with launch control and trick gearboxes, sub 4 second 0-60 is becoming the norm. It's size has become a problem for me. It's past that tipping poing from being a well engineered sports car, to a very large GT. As the 911 goes forward, I start to look backwards..

There is an ever thinning fine line between ‘Sports Car’ and ‘GT’.
I've not thought of the non 'GT / RS' cars as sportscars for quite a while.Carrera and Carrera S have been 'sporting GTs' to me probably since the 993.
Its a predictable evolution from the 991 but the interior is a big step up. Really doesn't say 'sportscar' though does it .
Its also going to be a £110K car even if you are frugal with the options list. Still relatively good value compared to the competitors though.

So ugly. Why is this car even being talked about this day and age. Should have become extinct many decades ago.
Perhaps because it remains one of the most iconic and instantly recognisable cars in the world?Perhaps because they are brilliant all round cars?
Perhaps because Porsche sold 21,500 911's in the first 6 months of 2018?
It always has been and continues to be a massively successful car so why would you want it to become extinct?
Every time a new version is released the same idiots always post up 'but it looks just like the last one' or 'why have they posted a pic of the last model'
Its not funny, its just tiresome. If you haven't yet worked out Porsches philosophy for the 911 of gradual evolution with each model then you can't know much about cars at all.
I can tell you now that in 8 or 10 years time when they reveal the 9th gen 911, it will look, wait for it, very similar to this one.
