A rather odd article. A standard Transit Custom will do over 93 mph.

They are a little odd to drive. Lots of body roll. A very poor ride-perhaps it would improve if fully laden. Over sensitive brakes. The usb input is handy.

No flat area on the dash for paperwork/clipboards.

Over sensitive parking sensors. I was in one with 500 miles when the brakes decided to apply themselves hard whilst executing a three point turn. Back to Ford to sit in the car park for three weeks before it went into the workshop.

Another is off the road awaiting a new gearbox.

The usb input is useful for playing music whilst awaiting recovery.

They are made in Turkey. I did read somewhere the parts were made in China and they are assembled in Turkey.

I like my transit custom but we in uk should all stick together and not buy them unless they are built here in the uk. About time we protect our jobs

Back in the seventies the V4 petrol Transits were reputed to be able to do 90mph. In the late nineties the 2.5 Di vans topped out at 80mph. It has taken nearly twenty years to get back to where we were forty years ago.

I had a swb mk5 DI that would show just over the ton if the road was flat and you kept your foot in for long enough, I've had an indicated 115mph in a 125 T350 mk6 and my current 90ps mk6 will show just under 90 even with the ridiculously short 5.13 rear axle.

Why is this under American Cars?

MS-RT is nothing new, friend has a Connect and can't you get a Guy Martin Transit all from MS-RT?

93mph with 170hp on tap!....that's not right...my old 2.5 102hp vw Transporter could pull 110 gps mph on the flat! And the transit 140hp sport scrapes 115mph....

We only ever had early tippers but I can imagine an empty v4 van would maybe approach 90mph but only for the couple of mins it took to knock the big end bearings out !
I ran later engined 2ltr pinto ohc tippers and flat beds and a couple of them would sit at an indicated 90mph , one of them was surprisingly perky and we managed an indicated 105mph , it was no where near in reality , cuckoo clock speedo .

Well whatever speed it does, it isn't going to worry Guy Martin's one! laugh

Years ago a mate of a mate who won his class in Slick 50 racing with a MK2 RS2000 (that was rumoured to be an RS2400) had his work van fitted with a Cossie - that must have been quite entertaining too!

Mind you that cabin does look like a nice place to spend some time - but I can't quite come to terms with a Transit having FWD. confused

agreeon the 93mph comments. thats surely a typo or Ford wanting to play it down maybe.

its got 300lbft on tap so its going to easy to get it going and I cant see it running out of puff at 93.

a typo might mean it should be 103 but even that sounds low.

think Sabine smashed a mk5 or mk6 tranny diesel around the ring and squeezed 115 out of that one. doubt it had 170bhp either.

what does this new custom weigh - fair enough if its like 2 ton!

Could be tricky - the Transit factory in Southampton is long closed.

I love these! Saw one this week at my local Ford garage when picking up my van after a service. Currently have the 130hp double cab limited for both work and family life, it ticks all the boxes! Bluetooth, AC, heated seats, cruise control, front and rear sensors with a rear view camera, you name it! I've added a few bits of tasteful mods including a front skirt, rear spoiler, wind deflectors, side steps (not a fan of chrome stick on bits!). Was thinking of going in for a remap taking my 130 to 170ish, but heard mixed reviews about power delivery on the the 170hp version? Gutless under 2k revs then a massive dollop of torque steer and wheel spinning if driven enthusiastically... The 2.2 tdci unit was better overall imo.

Add a hugely bastardised plate that’s attempting to spell something like “Darren” and you’ve got a full house! I really don’t get it, surely there are cheaper ways of letting all other road users know that you’re a massive ?

170bhp and 93 mph and £35k for the hot version really? My 2016 VW T6 transporter Highline has 204bhp as std and I’ve seen a genuine 125mph without trying. Reckon 130+ is minimum terminal speed. Lowered 3” and Bilsteins all round with 20” rims. No offence, but looks Uber cool compared to this. Year old cost £27k incl Vat from VW dealer plus £3k for the mods. Will be worth a lot if that when time comes to change it too.

VERY late to the party but I’ve finally cracked and ordered 2x L2 crew vans for my fleet, I buy a lot of vans but I’m actually genuinely excited for these.

They’re due this week, 1 in KLM Light blue and one in ‘Boulanger Blue’ which is a colour I’ve not seen before.

I’ll post pics if anyone is interested when they arrive hehe

Thankfully there are, and you don't need to go anywhere near a road to do so...

I once had the (dis)pleasure of driving the older R181(?) basically same thing as this, it was awful to drive, tram lining scrabble wagon.

Well, the first one arrived today. Glad I went for slightly bonkers colours. This one is KLM light blue, it should look very good when all the sign writing is done thumbup

It’s really split opinion, most people loving it, some calling it a chavvy POS hehe

They come with a very snazzy presentation kit, it’s got a baseball cap, pen, torch and some other bits, worth every penny of the £56k+vat list price hehe
