I'd probably consider this my only other real alternative choice to the 8 when replacing my 6 as the S-Class somehow seems to sit a little above it (maybe because it's that much bigger? I don't know); having had an extended test drive for a weekend, they're really something special - I had a V8 so can't comment on the V6 hybrid. The back of this is a mess, and the huge plastic grill (that so many german cars sport these days) looks hideous. The review seemed underwhelming, and while the M8 will no doubt be fast, I suspect it will be rather characterless.
You'd have to be one hell of a BMW fan to buy this over the competition. A used Conti, or DB11. Or S coupe if you want space. This is just not special enough

I've not driven one - nor am I likely to - but it looks tremendous. I don't think the BMW brand is strong enough these days to carry off a 1900 kilo £75'000 tank. Had a peek at one that was under covers last night at a BMW Dealer as I was picking up my new car. Pictures really don't do it justice, it's got real presence in the flesh and looks very good.
I'd probably still go for the Lexus though - that's a totally stunning looking car, which drives very well.

Love it, better still it's not silver or blue so how imaginative is that!
Got a whiff of Aston Martin about it.
Shame about the cluttered backside & nasty cheap silly shaped side vents.
Apart from being a pose it would be a waste of in the UK but for transcontinental touring it would be a delight.

Saw one drive past me last week, looks a lot better in the flesh and doesn’t look anywhere near as big as it does in photos.
People are moaning about the price but you’re not looking at it logically.
Let’s say the 840d started at £55,000 and the M850i started at £75,000, how much should should the new G20 330i cost? Because that starts at £45,000!
£76,000 for the 840d, the most popular model sounds perfectly fair to me, considering how expensive cars are these days, my mums hybrid RAV4 has a book price of 35 grand and that’s the most uninspiring car I have ever driven, absolutely nothing about it! A Golf GTI is about 29 grand give or take, 435ds list at 51 grand. I’m not sure what would be an acceptable price for BMW’s flagship model.

‘Even at more sensible speeds, it's hard to escape the crashy ride in Sport mode and overly springy one in Comfort, broken or undulating surfaces seeming to push the suspension beyond its comfort zone’
Surely the very least you would look for in a GT car is a sensible ride? Why can’t manufacturers achieve this with modern cars? A lot of cars don’t seem to ride well at all - even those designed to do just that!

That’s just a generic saloon BMW that could be a 520d, not taking anything away from it but it’s not a special car, approaching 2 years old and over 30k.
You can’t even get a decent 640d for 30k these days!
