100% agree, think of how much time is spent moderating these forums and trying to ensure that nothing libellous is posted. I admit I know nothing about the current moderation but I assume it is volunteer based? Surely that is not going to fly for Cargurus, and once they realise the effort involved they will close down the forums as soon as possible.

Don't think it will happen, look what happened to the Evo forums one day without warning they were just switched off.

A taste of what's to come.....
I suspect the social element of the forum will disappear and will be focused solely on cars only.

Might have to join mumsnet.
In doing so CarGurus is fulfilling its aim of bringing trust and transparency to the used car market

Good luck with that.

CarGurus is an online automotive marketplace with technology at its core, using proprietary algorithms to rank classifieds so that car buyers can quickly and easily find great deals from top rated dealers

Bullst. You just rank everything by price ascending by default.

I suspect that we probably wont notice that much, they have bought Pistonheads, of which the forums are a big part so suspect it will just be business as usual, perhaps with posts pointedly exposing something where the owners have some commercial bias, never sure why people are surprised by that, its not the BBC.

They'll need to realise that the thing that drives the classifieds is the forum user base.

If they get that wrong, it'll just die. Ironically though, even as a PHer of many years I start at Autotrader if I'm looking at cars.
+1, sadly - I'd love that not to be the case.

This can only be good news. Haymarket were a useless shower of bds who managed to suck most of the life out of Pistonheads, whilst at the same time treating the audience - their product - like scum and disregarding absolutely every concern raised.
I'm sure this new corporate entity will be all about the people. They have acquired it to make money and will do whatever it takes to do that.

I say we just make a new form if this one goes to scensoredit, try and salvage what we have and try to get permission for the archives

This really - Haymarket are a firm based on giving no tosses about the online presence of their acquisitions. This can only be a good thing.
Campaign was an acquisition and remains a go-to for much of adland/marketing.
