It must be awful to be so concerned about what other people do with their time and money. To have one's self-worth so utterly defined by external factors.

OK, £25k on one of these with KW's and 300+ bhp ...

These were based on the VW Porsche 924 and built in the Audi factory at Neckarsulm, some confused heritage there. Hardly in the same zone, is it, as a hand built low volume Award Winning sports car!

Ha ha, you were just joking, ha ha.

Aye, we all thought that.

All of this Alpine bashing is just getting dull and boring now. How can anyone that is supposed to be a car enthusiast be so negative about the fact that a company has made a sports car? In days when Porsche sells more twice the number of Macans than it does 911, Cayman and Boxster combined each year it should be applauded that there is a new sports car out there offering us choice. You don’t have to like it or buy it but should be happy that it exists.

Didn't Lotus try something similar with the Lotus Europa about a decade ago? Wasn't that a similar ethos to the A110?

2 litre turbo, manual box, light weight, more luxury than an Elise for longer journeys

On paper looked like a possible star. Unfortunately the press didn't like it, though I can't remember why. As you say nothing wrong with the ethos - but you've got to deliver on the ethos. You could say the same of the Alfa 4c (different ethos, but potentially something very special)
I remember Autocar saying the base model wasn’t quite ‘GT’ enough or luxurious for the moneybut EVO’s John Simister was more receptive to the more powerful SE model and gave it 4.5 EVO stars out of five - he focussed on the dynamics more in his review seemingly

Very well said and I don't understand it either.

Blade7 has been on most of the Alpine threads dishing out his bile, one day we may uncover what his insecurity is.

I have driven a number of 944s/968s in various state of tune and found them to be quite dull. Not bad in any way and I do like how they look but as a driving experience, surpassed by all the cars on this thread IMO.

This is a thread about used alternatives to the A110, I introduced a couple. You decide to get personal over a lump of metal, and I'm the insecure one?

I hardly think being insecure is something I would point at Alpine owners and enthusiasts, they have the confidence to enjoy the car regardless of the badge, something you don't seem to get.

You made a post about a TT RS with a quip about a Renault, I presume that you were referring to the Alpine.
Was that post made for a purpose or just so you could make another barbed Renault comment.

It's fairly obvious you have an issue with the Alpine and more particularly the badge, does it matter to you, you don't appear to have any interest in the car.

If you have a criticism of the Alpine say it but so far all you have managed is to mock the badge, repeatedly, which suggests to me the issues are more to do with you than the car.

I threw your comment back at you, not Alpine owners and enthusiasts in general. My references to Renault are a bit of fun, designed to flush out the keyboard warriors like you.

Thing is that may be fun the first time but like a kid with a loud toy it’s gets very dull after a while and takes discussion off on a tangent. Same goes for people calling a 911 a VW Beetle and all the dross on jagaur pages about not being real jags because they are no longer mobile sideboards.

Fact is the Alpine is a great car and the sports car world is a better place with it in existence. Doesn’t matter who has made it or what individually people think go the styling or (having driven it) how it drives. I want a world with A110, Cayman, TT, GT86 etc etc in it rather than a world full of Macan, EPace, X3 etc etc and I’m sure 99% of the people here do too so they should be applauded. To say one doesn’t like it, it’s too expensive in ones opinion is fair enough but to keep stabbing childish jibes over and over again is just more of a reflection on the person that is doing that rather than the looks, ability or price or the A110

A one off comment may be interpreted as bit of fun but you can't help yourself go on and on, pointlessly offensive, and then it's 'only banter'.

I call out people like you because you add nothing to the discussion, your are pointless, go and play somewhere else.

Renault have a F1 history that the likes of Porsche can only dream about, how pointing out the Renault connection translates into a jibe is beyond me, and I would suggest marketing is the only reason the new A110 doesn't have the same badges on its boot as the previous one.

Everyone knows the Renault affiliation, it is a pretty solid F1 pedigree, Williams-Renault etc.

Not putting it on the car seems somewhat disingenuous.

I don’t really care because I don’t own one, but I have driven one. You know full well that calling them a Renault gets the backs up of owners and that’s why you do it. You have admitted so yourself in a post higher up so don’t bother trying to justify it. Admitting that you do it to cause a rise is just trolling regardless of the F1 history of Renault etc blah blah blah.
