Or as was said a few times when it was in trouble, Branson/Virgin, or Red Bull.
I wrote elsewhere, but by my assessment there’s nothing in it for a Branson, Maseschitz or their brands.

Branson - a liquid £25m isn’t always lying around, tied up in assets etc; he seems to have largely knocked the personal jamborees on the head and soaking up Caribbean sunshine, and anyway, what does the Virgin brand stand for these days? So a marketing/financial return issue/challenge

Red Bull - decision making through large corporate channels isn’t always friendly to an administrators standard 8 week cycle, unless Dieter himself wanted it; additionally Red Bull like to create/ideation from within - this would be an antithesis to their normal MO

@Insight - £40m. £40m. Blimey! eek

Yeah but a golf R is faster in the real world so why bother? jester

on a serious note, Dyson and Branson could save this without even dipping into the Champage and caviar fund, and god knows Britain could do with something to be proud of on the international stage at the moment.....

Fun aside it is rather sad that in this day and age someone can spend as much on an underground garage filled with "exotica" for some youtube person to come along and start licking their anus. And yet we could not get this to completion.

What is the world coming to?

Maybe we should just ban motoring youtube videos from those scammers until they put up to get this rolling, rather than buying a Senna which they cannot drive to it's full potential?

Half these modern day people have never have even done an oil change. They can swap an SD card though.

Im sorry but, this was a total waste of money and talent.
While this hunk of junk was being waxed lyrical about, Wolfsburg was working on Golf mk 8 which will take over the world.

This is time and money that could be used for a British Rival, perhaps I'm living in the clouds?
Considering VW probably spent 40-50billion on the platform that underpins the golf (and others) then I don't think 40mil will get you far.

It's not what people fought in WW1 & WW2 for is it.

Disgraceful!

An underlying problem for me is that it was at it's most interesting when multiple nations were competing for the record.

But this was the same people trying to raise their own record.

It just doesn't ignite the same sort of excitement or national pride for me.

Why would you buy this over a 720S, which is even quicker?

Im not sure this project was ever that much about what speed it reached (although 1000mph was always going to grab headlines), but more about bringing the county's attention back to the science and engineering ability in the UK.

People have spent way more than 25m on vanity projects. I suspect the biggest concern was that the 25m number was BS and it would actually cost a LOT more.

But hell, 25million quid and a mad rocket car to inspire a whole country of aspiring scientist and engineers to get involved with a sector thats crying out for more heads? If I had the cash id put it in, Its not like we have a glowing space programme anymore...

Having the World's Fastest <70 year old technology> rather sums up Britain's current predicament.

Rather like having the world's fastest steam train in 1970, nobody cares.

(Let's say 1930s-50s or so for modern jets and rockets, though you can go back further if you want to stretch it.)

Have actually had serious conversations with SWMBO about trying to save it. The issue would still remain though, what would we do with it?

It's quite a good metaphor for the state the UK's in at the moment:

Trying to commit commercial and international suicide over Brexit, a disfunctional government tearing itself apart - a project like Bloodhound failing fits the current mood perfectly.
