Why so much dislike for tan/Brown leather interiors?

Back in 1977 I had a Fiat 125 in Olive Green with tan PVC interior - it wasn't a nice combination!
My dad two Pug 504 Family estates, an N reg one in 1974 and an S in 1977. Despite them coming with velour trim in the later car he specified (as a special order) "teppelux" seats in this awful beige colour (he was a vet, so he had all manner of stuff in the back. We would go to school wedged in with body bags containing rigid, dead dogs).Teppelux was awful; in hot weather the plastic smelled (and made me carsick) and even worse was going on holiday and getting back in and this stuff would have heated up to the temperature of the sun's core - I can still hear the screams of agony now, 40 years later.

Curious really, I saw it mentioned on the AM Zagatto thread that (paraphrasing) "...the interior was a rank colour..." and some friends of mine are the same. Brown/tan interior??? fk no! 'Orrible!
Personally I love brown/tan and would have this over black in an instant not to mention oyster/parchment to name but 2 others.
Why the lack of love?

Just out of interest could I ask your friends how many cars they have driven in with a tan seat? And puking on the back seat of a Toyota Avensis with tiger skin covering does not count.
Everyone knows the proper colour nowadays which suits all tastes is ======>

You heard it hear first. You will be able to match it up on your laptop before buying only to discover in natural light it is like the big sloppy dog poo that reminds you of curry slurry khaki
to my dogs intestines for producing such colour schemes.
I saw an E46 330 coupe a few years back in black with tan leather and it was probably the nicest looking colour combo I've seen. Certainly nicer than the oyster interiors they're doing now. I think the closest you can get now from BMW is cognac. I know my car came with a limited choice of black, oyster or coral red. I went grey with red but had they still done tan I'd have went black with tan.

I own a mk5 Golf GTI with the rare (and often hated) cream interior. I went to view it with an open mind but vs its black seated brothers it feels like such a bright and airey place to be, especially with the sun roof. In the wife's words, you wouldn't decorate your house with black walls, floor and seats so why the car?
I must be odd - when I was looking to buy my previous BMW I really wanted a Le Mans blue with cream interior 330i. Just looked lovely. Weirdly I'm half thinking about changing the Golf now and a 3 series touring is on the list - Le Mans blue with cream interior being top of the list of wants.
Do agree that it doesn't work in every car though.
That's one of my favourite combo's. I stumbled across it when I bought my current car and really love it. I was actually looking for a grey one with black leather and a pano but ended up with something completely different.I must be odd - when I was looking to buy my previous BMW I really wanted a Le Mans blue with cream interior 330i. The pale leather was almost essential in my book (along with the light headlining) this one had no sunroof. I had a black/black/black on once on hire and it felt like a bunker, to me, anyway.
My E90 3 series has the OAP/Daily Express sort of colour scheme that you might expect to find in a Rover 75 or a Jaguar X-Type.
The materials are a bit cheap, which really doesn't do beige any favours, or vice versa. The back seats are just wall-to-wall beige, and perhaps a slightly darker, richer shade would be better. But, still, I've come to like it. It's tons better than the more common dark and gloomy interior.

I like a 1/2 beige/ivory/tan interior with black carpets and black dash top.
My Jaguars interior used to be black, now:
My BMW had too much beige for me, so I changed the carpets for black and various plastics
They are now pretty much exactly how I would spec them new.
They both look perfect to my eyes. Esp the Jag. The colour scheme in mine is very similar. My Jaguars interior used to be black, now:

Don't you mean leather......?
Never seen a P6 with PVC interior, only leather or the cloth option after the 'box-pleat' interior was introduced. Back in the 70's one of our neighbour's had a new red 3500S with beige brushed nylon cloth 'box pleat' seats.
No, it was definitely PVC! Never seen a P6 with PVC interior, only leather or the cloth option after the 'box-pleat' interior was introduced. Back in the 70's one of our neighbour's had a new red 3500S with beige brushed nylon cloth 'box pleat' seats.
Being a 1973 model it was an early P6B 3500S so it didn't have PAS either, but all the 3500 autos did.
I don't think the cloth trim was available in 1973.
Haha, I have had a few of the combos that people have posted in here as horrid.
BMW with beige and old man wood trim.....
ML with beige and wood....
And a few more but can't pics.
I really don't like black interiors, my M3 was kiwi, 335i touring was lemon leather etc.
But there is a difference between beige and tan, I do quite like tan, but it can look like really cheap leather if you're not careful, more like pleather.

Red has been mentioned, for me it depends on the car and the exterior colour, I've always liked white or silver cars with red interiors...
It reminds me of opening the door of a Vanquish with a bright red interior in an Aston showroom - the salesman said in lugubrious tones "er, yes... it is a bit sudden isn't it sir?"Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
