Great article thanks - variety is the spice of life. I don't understand why some people object - just skip it. Perhaps I am just not a sufficiently dedicated PHer because I don't read all of the articles.

About Canada being big - I had just travelled across the Rockies from Calgary and was staying with some people in Vancouver. They told me about a fellow Brit who had come over and his Aunt suggested he go to see his cousin in Halifax, Nova Scotia whilst he was 'over there'. His reply was: You go, you're closer".

Great write up and strangely what I've been researching for the last few weeks!

Thanks for the hints and tips on what to see - Think we're going to do a one way Vancouver > Calgary trip with an SUV of some kind and stay in hotels to be more "nimble" as well as getting off the beaten track to do the odd day of proper hiking. The OH is into her photography too so more than enough for her to get her lens into.

When did you go? September? We're planning the 2nd and 3rd week of September - what as the temperature like?

Thanks again for the write up beer
exactly the same for us. end of aug start of sept.

dont google bear encounters jasper! might put you off the hikes.

Found a bunch of useful links with hikes, drop me a pm if you want em.

Inspired by your write up we are going to pretty much recreate your trip this August - it looks stunning. Flights are booked and RV selected.

Thanks!

Amazing, you're going to love it! Any questions feel free to drop me a PM. I think I've said further up but one absolute must is visiting Clearwater and the surrounding waterfalls in the area. We went rafting with Interior Whitewater Expeditions, which was amazing fun and spent a couple of nights at the Dutch Lake RV Resort, which I can also thoroughly recommend as a really nice place to stay.

My girlfriend, her daughter and I were looking at doing roughly this trip in July but had shelved it on a cost basis. Your article has changed our outlook, and we're now booked for the last 2 weeks in October with Happy Holidays Motorhomes, thank you! Looks like we'll be able to do the whole holiday for about the same or maybe less than just the flights & RV rental in July.

Do you have any recommendations for camp sites by any chance please?

Brilliant! Drop me a PM with your email address and I'll send our full itinerary over to you. We did tweak it slightly but I can thoroughly recommend every camp site we stayed at:

Whistler: Riverside Resort
100 Mile House: Didn't actually make it to our planned site as I was knackered so we stopped at Willow Spring's Campground. Owners were lovely but it was right by the road so a bit noisy if you're a light sleeper
Clearwater: Dutch Lake Resort (amazing views of the lake and really friendly staff)
Jasper: Whistlers Campground (this one is run by the national park and is incredible, the elk just roam freely around it)
Lake Louise: Kicking Horse Campground (run by the national park as above, right on the river)
Kinbasket Lake: Kinbasket Lake Resort (we didn't actually make it here due to snow, but looked good)
Revelstoke: Williamsons Lake Campground
Kelowna: Kelowna Urban Farm and RV Park (really small, we were lucky to get the last spot here)
Gibsons: You'll need to get the ferry back over on your last night and stay in Gibsons. The RV park there was full so I'd recommend booking but we did manage to get a spot at Langdale Heights

I honeymooners in Canada, starting in Vancouver (including taking a flying boat to Victoria for Orca watching which was hosted by none other than Rory Bremner's nephew who bore an uncanny resemblance to the man himself. Perhaps one for the tenuous links to celebrities thread?).

We then got the Rocky Mountaineer train to Whistler via Kamloops before hiring a Chevrolet Impala for the remaking 10 days.

At the time I had a Clio 182 which had the same power as the Impala which was all noise and no go really but pretty good for the drive to lake Louise, lake Maligne, Banff, Jasper and finally Calgary. Did the ice fields and went on a coach like contraption which apparently is the steepest climbing civilian vehicle in the world.

An amazing place full of wonderful, friendly people. Cracking food too. We saw loads of wildlife, did about 10 days of walking. Saw loads of bears, moose, goats etc.

The scenery was just breathtaking.

I'm relatively well travelled but it was the only place I've been to in the world where I wanted to live other than the UK. Sadly after completing an online test on the Canadian foreign office we sit it turns out I was too old, too thick and too skint!!!!

Bit of an anti climax the day I returned from my honeymoon!

Still, amazing memories and we will go back one day. Maybe in an 'RV'.

Can put some pictures up if people want. Not of me as I'm not that special to look at but of animals and scenery etc
Yes pics please!
I have sorted some pictures but the absolute toilet image upload function is not working.

Will try again another time.
