Why not?...it went exactly where it was steered.

For me, I'd be looking at whatever alternatives £30k can buy. And the answer is, a lot. The performance benchmarks are easily hit by a lot of other cars in standard format, never mind modified. Any forced induction car can be made to hit them incredibly easily.

The only thing that appeals to me about this is the noise, and even that, I'd have to worry about upsetting my neighbours, and attracting the attention of the boys in blue, along with potentially having it stolen.

Big pass on this, and would prefer something a bit more discreet.

I've done loads of miles in a Viper.

Gran Turismo's Team Oreca Viper GTSR that is!

And for that reason it'll always be on my lottery list.

Blue with white stripes coupe please. The red one from The Nutty Professor movie was pretty cool too, three spoke wheels and all!

Couldn't agree more. Why buy this when you can get a Golf R for less? Faster, more economical and seats 5.

And less chance of having it stolen too.
I own a 370bhp golf R and it’s wonderful... and about 20% as much fun as a proper raw performance car like a viper (hence why I have a tvr as well). Seriously, have you ever driven anything rwd, manual, analogue? Have you ever properly driven anything?

How tall are you? I'm 6ft2 and was fine in an RT/10, the only thing I found were the pedals seemed slightly off but that was soon forgotten when I was actually driving.
I'm 6' 4", I just found it to be super cramped, I had just driven an S2000, a Testarosa, A 355 and a Diablo SV on the same day and fit in all of those, the Viper was the worst of the lot

Be interested to hear your thoughts on the Z06 versus the viper? I’m considering both but the availability of the Vette is meaning a lot more on offer.
Not driven the Z06 so can't offer anything

20+ years ago popular beat combo the prodigy's Keith Flint had a yellow viper with blue stripes. I passed it most days in my way to college. It sounded fantastic, you could hear him coming for miles...

I find that hard to understand unless you didn't figure the seat adjustment out?

I have also driven all the above and to say there is more room in a Testarossa is a a joke, the Lambo is bad, the Ferrari is terrible if you are 'leggy' where I can drive a Viper in comfort.

A mate of mine who can drive well drove a recent fast Corvette against a recent Viper. Both were brilliant fun, he said, but in the end the Viper won him over. Why? He said it was quick, characterful, with insane grip levels and really took concentration and sharp reflexes to thrash the crap out of it. Sounds great!

My memory of the Viper is also positive. They would overtake me doing bonkers speeds in the rain down the dottinger hohe straight, with massive noise and even more massive rooster tails of spray out the back. Looked really exciting to drive. Quick too!

Not driven a viper (6-4 and could barely fit in the ones I’ve sat in) but I did own a c6 z06 for a while. Tremendous car - terrific engine, proper fast, decent gear change, handled really, really well (but stay alert), fantastic brakes, sounded epic. Gear ratios are very long but if you pretend 1st is 2nd, etc, you still get to rev it out fairly often. Not huge steering feel but doesn’t seem to matter as you feel everything through the seat. Dreadful interior but if you have time to look you’re driving too slow. But as I say, I cannot compare it to the viper.

The key is realising the pedals are adjustable too.

But then you'd own a Golf R, the most boring performance car on the planet.
To be fair, the Golf can actually seat kids in the back while sounding like a washing machine.

Seriously? Golf R's seem to be one of the most stolen cars (in Yorkshire anyway)

Mark Benson said:
Had my Golf R estate nicked back in April. Broke in and took the keys and were last pinged by cameras at Yeadon (we're near Scotch Corner).

A neighbour in the NY police told me that since they opened the new motorway, 17 Golfs Rs and Audi S3s had been taken in the area and all were last seen near the airport.

VWFS were very good actually, as I'd had it less than 6 months they were keen to get me in another - I declined.....
They sorted the insurance (even though Axa were making it as difficult as possible for them) and kept me informed all the way. It seems they have quite a lot of thefts to deal with.

.
I've had Mustangs for over 30 years, but a Viper was my dream for over 20 years until I finally got a gen 3 in 2015. 11000 trouble free miles since then, and so cheap to run. Comparing a modern hatchback (no matter how fast) to a Viper is crazy talk smile

That's just fantastic. I can only imagine you never get tired of opening up the garage doors and seeing that!

An honest appraisal amongst all the hyperbole commonly used to describe the R.
