RE: Kahn Design London Taxi: Spotted

The two tone paint job to my eye gives the impression of a Mitsuoka interpretation of a Rolls Royce.
The finish on that steering wheel is appalling.
As a concept, I like it. Take a black cab and pimp out the interior, maybe even embellish the exterior a little, but there is nothing there that suggests it is worth £40k given the quality of the workmanship, leaving aside the issue of taste.
Then again, am I the only one shocked at the price tag of the original vehicle?

As someone has already pointed out though, that's the price of the TX5, whereas the TX4 was closer to £40k:The finish on that steering wheel is appalling.

So it's actually more like £60k extra. Crazy

I can't be the only one who initially read the headline and though they were referring to the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan designing a new taxi haha!
The thought briefly crossed my mind, then I realised that would involve actually doing something other than catching the next bandwagon.DBSnappa said:
I live in London. I hate black cabs for one simple reason and it isn't the whopping charges. It's this. Every TX4 or lesser model I've ridden in has the same flaw. Ride quality that would have been unacceptable in a normal car for over 30 years is deemed acceptable in a brand new taxi. Honestly, the only vehicle I've driven that compares is a Defender and we all know that harsh ride seems far more forgiving if you have the wheel in your hands. The back seat of one of these things is slightly less comfortable than riding a bath tub down a mountainside.
Anyway, I bet they haven't even fixed the suspension on this, have they.
Agreed but that's probably due to the fact it's not a monocoque chassis and the chassis it does have is 50+ years old. Knowing the licensing regime in London, it'll probably pass the inspection with flying colours Anyway, I bet they haven't even fixed the suspension on this, have they.

Mr Kahn has given us a golden opportunity....

I mean sure, but having watched his little series on Youtube I get the distinct impression he's not remotely concerned - he's got to be doing something right to have what looks like a pretty successful business. ....to laugh at him
Certainly not to my tastes what his company gets up to, but entertaining and I'm kinda glad they (and others like them) exist.

Well, he started out with 'Kahn Laboratories' (!) churning out chavved up accessories for the drug dealers in your neighbourhood for their Range Rover Sports; from there it was but a short hop to setting up the Chelsea Tractor Company, sorry, Chelsea Truck Company, with pimped up Land Rovers with quilted leather interiors, wide nonced-up low profile wheels, big sound systems, which obviously struck a chord with the less well-informed motorist. There's also the possibility of 'living the lifestyle' with caps, watches, tee-shirts and all sorts of other crap.Certainly not to my tastes what his company gets up to, but entertaining and I'm kinda glad they (and others like them) exist.
Although Kahnt's business caters for everything I personally dislike about the aftermarket / pimped-up SUV trade, he's clearly onto a winner, and I respect his business acumen..
