RE: McLaren sales up 43 per cent
Discussion
McLaren are schooling the rest of the supercar world, Ferraris new Dino had better have a carbon tub or theyre going to loose even more sales. McLaren should make a 4x4 and clean up.

Very interesting what you have said there but how many different engines do Ferrari produce? The answer is 2, a V8 and V12. The V8 has been around since the Ferrari F355 and the V12 goes back to the 575. So im not exactly sure what your problem is with McLaren who have produced one engine in 8 years when Ferrari have been using the same 2 engines for over 20 years. Also they have produced 3 different chassis' and have developed a Hybrid system. I think all is all that's pretty impressive in 8 years.
Show me another Manufacturer that has done more in there first 8 years?
I'm not kicking McLaren for what they've already developed. As you say for a relatively new company, they've hit the ground running. (bar well publicised QC wobbles) I'm expressing 3 opinions consistently.Show me another Manufacturer that has done more in there first 8 years?
1) That every car they have made has been very similar to the last. (carbon tub V8TT, 2 seats. or 3 ) It's all a bit samey.. Imagine if Porsche had ONLY ever made 911. They'd have failed years ago. Diversification attracts NEW buyers. It brings in MORE money. Development costs will (should) be covered in the lifecycle so it's not a loss. And if you attract that person who wants a 2+2. In 5-6 years time and you supersede it. They'll probably buy the new car. I forget which manufacturer said it but "customers for life" should be the aim. Which on a related note, I don't think pandering to the "ooh look shiny new thing" YouTube fktards is a great idea. Since I don't believe they ever develop true brand loyalty like some have for Ferrari, Porsche or McLaren. Target the people who save up for these cars. Give them a great buying and owners experience. The old 80% of your sales come from 20% of your customers (or something)
2) That there is no clear McLaren "language" of design. Visually there's very little that would tie 12c, 720s and Senna from the same brand if you didn't know. And these cars are separated by a few years, not decades. Also on that note, that 720s, Senna and Speedtail are far from good looking items IMO (But that's obviously subjective)
and
3) Whilst obviously not privy to whatever they decide at board level. They don't sound like they are about to change that method any time soon. Which is of course their choice. I find it curious that they aren't exploring other segments. And if you read some of Flemkes comments you can see he was miffed at some of the production numbers promised and then ignored. So I wonder (as an outsider) what the long term plan is to retain and get new customers. And what their overall strategy is. How many new cars in the next 3-4 years? Is there REALLY a need?
That's all there is to it Some posters get very aggy and defensive when someone posts a counter view to their own. They are the people that probably voted to Remain. Lack of ability for critical thinking does tend to cloud ones mind.

The McLaren F1 is my favourite car of all time as it was function over design. It wasn't a good looking car but boy did it function well.
The P1 was an incredible piece of machinery and I think its a shame they stopped the continuation of that car. The Senna has one function to be the most extreme road car ever produced and the speedtail to be the fastest ever McLaren.
I think what they have done wrong is produce the 5, the 6 and the 7 all of them being pretty much the same car. That would be like Ferrari producing 3 different versions of the 458 with different body styles and slightly different engines.
What McLaren need is a Hypercar, Supercar and a 2 + 2 Sports car. That way each car would have its own segment to compete in.

I thought they were going to cap sales at 5k PA.
So not sure about them wanting to make 6k cars or more as they wanted to be exclusive.
and when they say 18 new models, is any thing moved forward really ?
18 new models based on the 12C :-) as they are all the same tub and all have the same engine layout and size as the 12c ! give or take a few tweaks lol
The cars are so dull imo. 12c mk 26 !!
12c vs the lastest 600lt, the cars are the same specs and the same performance to a tee even lap times from the 2004 12c are give or take the same.
seems they are a bit stuck and cannot really do much else bar body designs.
