The original Arden on "period" 15/16" cross-spoke (BBS?) rims looked so much better - whoever chose the alloys for this remake needs to give themselves a firm talking to and / or an interview without coffee...

The Series 3 was such a dainty car by today's standards you simply don't need anything bigger.

The close up of the wheel makes it look a bit crap, but on the car it just works. I want this Jag more than a lot of massively more expensive Hypercars.

I've posted up some original 1980's Arden brochure scans here, if you're interested. Arden brochure scans
Thanks for the link - got lost in the Orion price list for a while -£122 for a graphic equaliser sounds about right - back to the Duncan Hamilton brochure though - under £5k for a manual 'box swap - yes please!!

First time around IIRC they had BBS cross spoke wheels, also used in the XJ40 based Twin turbo cars such as this:

Are the wheels and the steering wheel from that uber-lord of Bradford-based automotive taste, the very wonderful Kahnt?

Cross-spoke style split rims are a better style, but these are just far too low-profile for the looks of the car and, more to the point, must surely wreck the legendary Jaguar ride and handling. It is easy to forget just how good Browns Lane were at getting the balance of comfort and handling back in those days.

It was all looking quite nice until the side profile shot with those wheels. Oh, my eyes!

Unbelievably cool, do you have a thread or any info on this??
Thanks! Yeah I did a blog that goes from beginning to end of the project, spanning a number of year. Loads of info there on this car build and XJ40's generally if you are interested. smile

Would Arden build a car on an X300/08 today if you supplied an XJR?

Can't help but think Jaguar did it better themselves with the XJ. £10k is going to buy you a mint one of those.

I had a S111 and loved it. The looks, the magic carpet ride & the class it exuded. It felt special.

Unfortunately it looks like all those qualities have been spoiled. Wheels are horrid, steering wheel the same. Nothing wrong with engine tweeks but it sounds like its still got the 3 speed slush box so will never be a drivers weapon.

Give me an original one please.

Lived in Krefeld for a short while, feck me what a boring hole when i was bursting with youth and vigour.
Had about ten pubs of which six were "kneipe" (old git pubs).

Had one Irish pub and a five floor techno disco complete with swimming pool and foam.
At least Dusseldorf and fantastic Cologne was nearby.
Arden was a massive dealership back then and a doddle to get to from Blighty.
Id probably prefer the Kneipe now.

I also has a S3 V12 HE sovereign a few years back. It was a special thing to travel in.
It had an AJ6 engineering big throttle and plus torque kit which gave it about 330BHP. The thing that held it back and made it thirsty was the prehistoric 3 speed box attached to that wonderful engine. A decent more modern 5 (or more) speeder would utterly transform it. No need for barry styling and dinner plate wheels.
Article didn't say anything about gearbox mods other than a tweak. More gears is more than a tweak, if there's still only 3 then ahm oot!

I'd source a lovely late regency red micatalic XJ12 with magnolia hide (piped in mulberry with mulberry carpets) and hand it to Arden....

But i wouldn't just want their 5.3 litre upgrade pack. I would want their full house 6.3 litre conversion with their 4 speed ZF auto conversion.
I'd have the front valance, the side skits and the rear valance. I'd keep all the brightwork and have the car running on their 17" OZ 5-spoke split rim wheel option.
I'd go full house with the 'precious wood' options and of course have their suspension and brake upgrades too.... And then i'd have an identically specked Arden AJ3 Station car :-)
