it looks like a badly modified body kit. The vents on the bonnet and doors, the extended bulge on the door, and that raised ducktail bootlid. None of it seems to flow nicely and looks more like a mismatch body kit.

What a painfully long, drawn out launch process.

Teasers and camouflaged cars for years.

Boring.

Can’t muster any excitement now. And I’m a Toyota bore.

It does look better lowered and on better wheels, but thats not the point, I don't expect to spend £54k on something to then have to modify it to make it look better! This is such a shame.... I was really hoping this would be a contender!
Have you seen the standard wheels on a Cayman S? Bland, dated, and nowhere near worthy of a sports car that is also ~£54k. You very rarely see them on standard rims, everyone ponies up for the optional ones. It's basically the same thing.

This...

...is a thing of beauty.

This...

...is not.

Bloody manufacturers teasing with concepts and then finally releasing an absolute dog in comparison.

They are so very close but somehow the red one is stunning and the grey isn't.

Most of those 900 nags look to have been turned into glue before that video was shot.

I wonder whether the interest generated by 5 years of teasing with the FT1 still outweighs the loss of interest caused by how silly the production version looks in comparison?
Would they have been better off without giving us something to unfavourably compare it to?

Saw Shmee150 video on the Supra, re badged Z4, even down to the switchgear and iDrive controller. Nice engine but was expecting a little bit more individuality. Some reason my last post disappeared... banghead

The bodywork above the top of the arches is too tall and vertical, it makes the wheels look small and the car look, dare I say, dumpy.

Photos from the front make me think of an overweight Mk1 Audi TT.

If someone could coachwork slightly flatter front and rear wings then it might redeem the shape a little. I also think the headlights are too big and too high set.

The concept didn't have to adhere to safety regs and the production car does. That's the long and short of it.

I really wanted to like this, and based on the ‘racing’ livered pre-launch versions and the red one posted above, had high hopes. I know this is based just on these photos, but in either colour and from any angle it just looks heavy with lines that don’t flow ... and at the money they want I’ll go back to an F-Type again ...

I'd imagine a bespoke Toyota interior would add considerably to the cost with little gain. Much as the 124/MX-5 or GT86/BRZ, by sharing interior components the cost comes down for both partners.

Can someone please explain why the new Supra, and BMW sibling, have a short wheelbase with long overhangs? Is it a consequence of front / rear impact regs or a need for BMW to return to designing gawky, unbalanced-looking gargoyles?

The concept Supra is easily a 100k car. There is no way they could package that up in a 55k price range.

I agree so maybe what they should have done is release this as a Celica at this price point and made the Supra exactly like the concept for more money.

Same thing happened with the GT86 to be fair, the original FT86 concept was an amazing looking thing, then a bunch of accountants and committees got involved and it all became a bit incoherent. Still a great car to drive, but none of the lines make much sense to me.

Repulsive looking thing.
What on earth is going on with Japanese car styling at the moment? It's gone mental. The Civic, the new Prius, that Toyota urban crossover coupe hybrid thing, the entire Lexus range and now this.

To my eyes they are a cacophony of swoops, slots, lumps, bumps, extrusions, flaps and all manner of strange bits of glued-on plastic.

Ahm oot.

As many are saying, the Supra ought to have been at the GT-R level & price point. As it was 15/20 years ago.
