You can blame pedestrian impact legislation and headlamp height legislation for that.

That combined with a straight six (which is obviously the worse possible configuration from the point of view of hardpoint clearance) and there's not a great deal they can do to keep the bonnet line down short of fitting expensive under-bonnet airbags.

I guess the front McPherson struts also need a bit more height above the arches (compared to double wishbones on the two bubble-era cars)

Probably true; there's less excuse for that though. Straight sixies are lovely engines and arguably worth the styling compromise; McPherson struts are just half-arsed cost-cutting unless you're trying to fit a wide engine between the suspension towers (which they aren't).

There's alot going on. A bit to much for me.
Agreed, way too much.
There’s a time to just stop tweaking and styling.
These guys should have put the pens down and gone home at 5pm

I've probably owned more Supra's, Soarer's, JZX's & anything Toyota with a big six but my god that is the ugliest thing I have ever seen. Even the Batmobile looks better, its like some collaboration between Lipu & a hideous diy creation from the sixties.

I'm no car designer but even I could have told them that is one that should not make it past the sketch stage. Mind you in this day & age I assume they allow blind designers to sign cars off.

If ever we needed Mazda to release an RX7 to give some dignity back to Japanese sports cars, now is the time!

Anyone remember the last good looking Yota?
They should fire the entire design squad and hire some competent people. There might be some leftovers from Bertone, from who they stole the design.

bks, I quite liked it before I saw this. Those overhangs ruin it.

That side-on photo makes me think of the lovechild of a Capri and an Avenger getting inflated by a balloon pump. I hope it looks better in the flesh, err metal.

I really like it. Interesting to see if we get the cheaper slower version over here as £54k is quite expensive.

I like it and I generally am pretty positive about new stuff but by god the previous one (MK4) was a hell of a looker, people go on about the E Type Jag but I prefer the Supra, in the right colour either standard, or sympathetically modified I think it is one of the best looking cars ever. So many got utterly ruined, less is more sometimes.

The MK2 Supra always looked good as well, the MK3 has its charms but the Mk4 is the one.

I dont mind this but it has got way too much going on styling wise.

Porsche get away with struts.
Alpine is just a Renault, despite having 'proper' suspension.

Would also be interested in the entry price of the 2.0 cars, assuming we get them in a year or so, what do the new z4 cost with the smaller engines?

This looks rather ungainly. The wheels are too close together for all the bodily swoops they’ve tried to squeeze in there. Sadly, looks like someone couldn’t put the pen down. I bet this looked fantastic 5 years ago before Takumi-san got carried away with the styling.
