is it wrong that i would love to see this with a bmw twin turbo straight six diesel?

320 bhp nigh on 500 lbs/ft of torque, would be rather fun.

or shoehorn the triple turbo version in for 400 bhp and 600lbs/ft of torque. to hell with the diesel hate toyota be different and stick 2 fingers up to the world and build a diesel sports car smile

Yes, it is totally wrong!

Just get the 3 litre petrol remapped - it isn't intended for private hire! laugh If Toyota get too involved you're more likely to get a Hybrid!

I definitely prefer the looks of the Supra to the Z4 version - but then my Z4 is a Coupe!

And the Supra does have some styling similarities - but a 4 cylinder turbo! No thanks - might as well throw money away on an entry level F-type. banghead

quite like the x35d we have in the family frown . its a great setup with the 8 speed zf box. maybe also see if toyota can get the supra type approved for towing whilst we're at it smilesmilesmile

but serious pants on though, will be great once the tuners start getting their hands on these. and getting 5/600 hp out of them

I know that four cylinder petrol engines are about as exciting as a wet weekend...but please don't make it even worse by suggesting a diesel engine for God's sake! cry

How easy will it be to put the mk4’s 2JZ-GTE in I wonder? Won’t be long before the Japanese tuners attempt it I assume....

I see 370z, Z4 and Suzuki cappuccino in that design language, I’m dissapointed, why not just build what we all wanted with the FT-1?

Of course, back in the day a four-cylinder Supra was called a "Celica"
Mmm wide body 2.8i...
They were also 2+2s and looked elegant.

The designer was inspired by a German Cockroach.

Porsche get away with struts.
Indeed and what Porsche manage to achieve with such flawed camber control is frankly nothing short of miraculous, almost certainly helped by a relatively low centre of gravity reducing the requirement for roll. The Alpine still has far better suspension kinematics though, as does the Evora.

Using them at the back of Porsche's products is probably necessary because of the layout of the engine - basically the camshafts are where you'd want to put the mounts for a set of upper wishbones. I've never really understood why Porsche use them at the front.

True, it didn't take long for the first 2JZ to end up in a GT86, now there are plenty.
the engine does look sooooo right in there & should be perfectly at home in the new Supra.

Still, on the subject of 4 cylinder Supras, it does seem a little bit of a missed opportunity to have relaunched the Celica Supra badge

So the BMW engine out of the mini and 300kg heavier? Okay.

Same engine available in many outputs & used in the 7 Series as well which weights 1750Kg and can still be shuffled o 60 in 6seconds!

Engines being used across platforms and multiple brands is not something new.

I never said it was, it just seems bizarre for a halo car.

Wonder how hard it would be to engineer the 2JZ up to modern emission standards

Yeah, there were never 4 cyl versions of any of those cars in the past.....

Ok, a Supra with 4 cyls was a Celica, but you can still get a six cylinder.

Also, the 2JZ is lauded, what makes it so good other than tunability, to my limited understanding its a turbocharged six cylinder, double overhead cam engine of 3000 cc or thereabouts.

The B58 has a very similar specification, ok its a single turbo vs sequential twins but its twin scroll.

Power and torque arent a million miles apart, and I know someone will say is that all BMW could manage after 20 odd years, but power outputs are only one fact, emissions were mentioned and I am sure there is loads of other stuff that Max Torque could tell us about.

But why the love for the old Toyota engine over the ostensibly similar BMW engine, which seems to be being seen as a wooden spoon almost ?

Is the Toyota engine more rev happy, lighter, does it sound nicer ?

That mighl be difficult in the UK, since the MOT rules changed.

It's seriously over-engineered. Something you'll never see again.
