RE: Updated 7 Series gets new 530hp V8
Discussion
I expect that grille has multi-function capability. Press the ‘Nut(rition)’ button on the dash and said grille rotates upwards with a couple of halved oil barrels behind them fully loaded with charcoal. Turn the ignition switch to ‘braai’, get out your favourite wursts and enjoy a road side cookout.

How can the biggest, flashest BMW of them all have less power than a M5? Doesn’t seem right!
For most of history, this has been the case. E32 750i V12 had less power than E34 M5 (even in 3.6 form). E38 750i V12 had less than E39 M5. Likewise E65 760i V12 and E60 M5, and F01 760Li and F10 M5. Pre facelift G11 760Li bucked the trend with slightly more power than the standard F90 M5 (601bhp vs 592bhp), but the F90 Competition Pack is still more powerful with 616bhp. So seems like it’s business as usual to me.I really want to like it. The side and rear of the car are really nicely resolved and well proportioned. It has some nice details. The interior looks great.
But that front end. Every time I think I could get over it the sheer scale of it hits my retinas. I can’t understand it. How could they do this to what is otherwise a very handsome car? Are they living in a bubble? Or has no one in the design team got the guts to tell it like it is.

To my eyes the e32 was the last great 7. This ‘thing’, dear god only it’s designer could love it.
And I completely agree with an earlier poster about the interior and the gauges. BMW used to be a model of clarity with their dials. Now they look like some cr*p console game. Interior looks like a tarts boudoir styled by laurence llewelyn bowen in a dale winton hue.
BMW probably sell 3 to 4 times as many 7s in China compared to the US. We all know tastes in China are different.
But when the bath water flows out (which it inevitably will), which poor chap is going to be left holding this minging baby?
Watch for collapsing BMW stock prices coming to a discount store near you.

I was hoping it might be one of these cases where “real life” looks better than these promotional renders, but it looks even fking worse in that pic!I was looking at images of the X7 and I just couldn't get over how big the grills were.
Not sure if its something that you would start to ignore.

“As such, the 7 will retain three oil burners that span 3.0 and 4.0-litre displacements and each have six cylinders. These variants, the 730d, 740d and 750d, produce between 265hp and 400hp.”
Nope, all 3 litre straight six. Only difference is number of turbos (1, 2 or 4)
Correct. The more accurate engine specs are:Nope, all 3 litre straight six. Only difference is number of turbos (1, 2 or 4)
Diesel:
BMW 730i • 6 cylinder Diesel • Capacity 2993cc • Power 195 kW (265 PS) at 4000rpm • Torque 620 Nm from 2000rpm • Acceleration 0-100 km/h in 6.1 s (xDrive: 5.8 s) • Top speed 250 km/h (155mph).
BMW 740d xDrive • 6 cylinder Diesel • Capacity 2993cc • Power 235 kW (320 PS) at 4400rpm • Torque 680 Nm from 1750 to 2250rpm • Acceleration 0-100 km/h in 5.3 s • Top speed 250 km/h (155mph).
BMW 750d xDrive • 6 cylinder Diesel • Capacity 2993cc • Power 294 kW (400 PS) at 4400rpm • Torque 769 Nm from 2000 to 3000rpm • Acceleration 0-100 km/h in 4.6 s • Top speed: 250 km/h (155mph).
Petrol:
BMW 750i xDrive • 8 cylinder Petrol • Capacity 4395cc • Power 390 kW (530 PS) from 5500 to 6000rpm • Torque 750 Nm from 1800rpm • Acceleration 0-100 km/h in 4.0 s • Top speed: 250 km/h (155mph).
BMW 760Li xDrive • 12 cylinder Petrol • Capacity 6592cc • Power 430 kW (585 PS) from 5250 to 5750rpm • Torque 850 Nm from 1600rpm • Acceleration 0-100 km/h in 3.8 s • Top speed: 250 km/h (155mph).
Plug-in-Hybrid:
BMW 745e • 6 cylinder Petrol plus Electric Motor • Capacity 2998cc • Power (total) 210 kW (286 PS) from 5000 to 6000rpm • maximum torque 600 Nm • Acceleration 0-100 km/h in 5.2 s ( 5.1 s in xDrive) • Electric Range 54 - 58 km.
Even the slowest one (730d RWD) is 6.1 seconds to 62MPH - impressive for 265PS and the weight of this thing, I wonder how many gears it uses to do it.
The higher models look positively ballistic for a massive barge. 4 seconds to 62MPH for a 750i, to put this into perspective a McLaren F1 was 3.7 seconds with a professional driver and this will do it every single time no matter how inept the driver. Astounding performance.
