Car brand loyalty
Discussion
The only people I have known to be brand loyal when it comes to cars was my father & his post war peers.
Many of his friends & colleagues were Riley Austin or Morris men, even Ford Dagenham Dustbin men, ut being a snob as was my mother he wouldn't be seen dead in a Ford, couldn't afford a Rover or the like so went with Hillman throughout the 1950's.
Then he changed his view on espying the Ford Classic. He thought the two-door version was very smart & ordered a new one in grey with an off-white roof. To his immense annoyance the salesman was happy to sell him the then current 1300 cc version knowing full well the 1500cc version was soon to be launched. My dad despite being a moderately successful businessman was naïve enough to think the salesman should have told him about the improved version before placing his order. Sadly the Classic rusted like hell, Dad thought the Cortina cheap nasty & common, the Corsair too flash. With only modest funds available he ended his days in basic stuff such as titchy little Fiats & Seats.

2 Opels (Kadett C, one saloon and one coupe, first car)

Probably forgot quite a few, but it's safe to say that BMW is most popular...

2 Leyland
1 Fiat
1 Ford
2 stroen
2 Nissan
1 Hyundai
1 BMW
2 Lexus
so no real loyalty, although Hyundai and Lexus would deffo buy again with possibly a BMW as long as it has a big petrol NA engine (fun car).
I like Lexus as a brand and probably the closest to a 'loyalty', but only if they have a car to suit my needs/price.

A former boss of mine has been driving for 50/51 years now and has only ever owned VWs. I can’t really understand that level of devotion to a brand, especially one that’s not exactly exiting or makes any sort of model that lots of other marques don’t, but I guess it makes choosing your next car a lot easier!
I’ve had all sorts - BMW, VW x 2, Subaru, Ford x 2, Rover, Vauxhall, Volvo, and I’m about to order an Audi. I just buy whatever suits.

33% Land Rover and 33% Peugeot, although I doubt I'll ever own another Pug when there are more interesting PSA alternatives.
Only 15% Citroen although this brand I find historically the most interesting with their history of vehicles, Traction, DS, SM, 2cv and C6 are all on the wish list, so in the future I expect that percentage to become the majority in the future.
15% Rover, getting hard to find decent ones so I doubt this percentage will ever go up.
In terms of looking forward, brands I would consider are Citroen, Jaguar, Saab and Volvo, excluding a few classic marques such as Riley or Daimler.

5 Hondas (4 of them S2000s)
5 Vauxhalls (2 of them GSi's , decent cars)
2 Fords (1 Capri back in the day, i Mondeo shed)
2 VWs (Mk 4 and Mk 5 R32s)
2 Audi (S3, TTS)
1 Lancia (Delta, not an Integrale, sadly)
1 Citroen (BX GTi, never, ever buying French again)
1 BMW (335d)
I've spent a large proportion of my salary on cars over the years. Still, at least I didn't waste it!
